Being someone that has read the manga and does not wish to spoil a think, all I'll say is this. Vinland Saga is very good and I sincerely recommend that you watch it.
However, this is only going by the first three episodes. In other words, as adaptions go, it does seem to be one of the better ones.

Haven't watched the show yet, but I want to chime in and say that the source material, the original manga is excellent! I highly recommend picking it up, it's being sold as hardcover 2-in-1s that are worth it!

As someone whose content of this franchise is his past history, this is some pretty great stuff. I'm currently on top of the manga releases so far, and I've loved every second.

So of course it had to go to Amazon Prime. =_=

We’re spoiled for riches in historical fiction about people trying to nurture philosophies of peace despite incredibly violent cultures: Dororo was the most fantastical, Golden Kamuy requires some suspension of disbelief, and Vinland Saga seems the most grounded in reality (so far), but they are all really good stories about the toll of violence on soldiers and civilians alike.

the only suspension of disbelief required for vinland saga is how strong a few, elite guys are, everything else is pretty realistic, which probably exacerbates how unrealistic the strenght of some guys feels.

As someone who's up to date on this manga I will say this, Thorkell is gods gift to the anime/manga community.
I look forward to the episodes that he's featured in.
