Yeah, I agree. I was merely trying to point out you can be Anime Inspired while not relying so heavily on all the shorthands.

Back in anime land I remember Obari getting mad at Trigger for 'copying' him, and when you think of all the internal references anime has and how many people homage/copy Obari the issue starts to develop layers.

I remember when Steven Universe came out and people would link me clips. "Look, this show is making homages to anime, isn't that great?" Or someone wanted me to get Hyped up that a Gundam was in Ready Player One. Or there is some D&D being played in Stranger Things.

Anime-bait is a lot like Nostalgia Bait. I think we all mind less when the underlying product is solid.
