Now we're running out of avenues to stream this anime. I'm starting to wonder if the west was even meant to see this...

For all that people have been blaming Western streaming sites for this debacle, you'd think the Japanese licensors would have done a better job of explaining to international streaming sites what this show's content was going to be like before they spent money on the license fees, especially in this day and age of high speed Internet communication.

No one's forcing you to watch it uncensored, or even watch it at all.

But hey, blocking everyone from seeing it might as well be the same thing as announcing we live under a communist government.

Even hentai (which stressing again this anime is not!), is available to the public for purchase. This makes no sense and may even be considered outright hazing.

It's still appearing on their Apple TV service platform although it appears they've removed all reference to the first episode (maybe they didn't like the title of that episode?).

For crying out loud, this was not an anime original story, this was all along a manga (now in volume 3, at this rate the anime will only cover the first two) adaption that did not deviated from the source material. What Funimation did was the equivalent of a vegan going to a burger king and then crying foul because their is meat in their meal. -_-;

From everything I've heard about this show, the anime did add in more graphic content than the manga. Is it typical for anime companies to read the manga source material of every title they license?

That didn't stop Funi from releasing Valkyrie Drive.

Well, obviously, because that doesn't exist in Valkyrie Drive

Not actual sex scenes but lots of nudity and molestation of a 15 year old as mentioned in the series. Which is why the BBFC blocked it's release in the UK when MVM tried to release it here.

Wait, when did the molestation of a 15 yr old happen?? I've been watching this show since the beginning uncensored and can't remember anything like that. Honestly, to me all the characters also look old enough (by anime standards) (cept maybe Crim and his baby face.)

As I mentioned earlier, this series is really not all that bad. Honestly its tamer then shows like High School DxD. People keep calling it softcore, but there is no nudity, but plenty of naughty humor.

You are clearly watching a censored version.

To be fair, the censored version is the only officially streamed version. Can't blame someone for not being a pirate.
FUNimation is also streaming the home video versions for all 4 seasons on FUNimationNow. They add the home video versions later on, though the simulcast (censored) version is still available.
https://www.funimation.com/shows/98647/#videos (Click on "Version" and you'll see "Uncut" as an option for all 4 seasons)

I'm sorry, but this is where the One Piece rule might come into effect. One streamer dropping a license that people subscribed to their service to see is rude, but Amazon of all streamers? If people think they've been robbed of their money, it's going to encourage piracy.

That's not going to help the anime industry. The success of Crunchyroll, FunimationNow, Hidive, and the licensors that supply their stock; that's what helps the industry. There is no other alternative that can support the staff, creative, and voice actors that help bring those shows to life that doesn't involve them.

I expected Amazon to do something like this because, from the moment they launched Anime Strike, they established themselves as being just as terrible as Netflix when it comes to simulcasts. That being said, I expected better from Funimation, especially since they never had a problem licensing explicit shows like this before (High School DXD, Ikki Tousen, Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid). Funimation should not have picked up this show knowing titles like this can cross some boundaries they might not be comfortable with; I refuse to believe after all these years that someone in the company didn't know what they were getting themselves into.

This is on par with Disney XD picking up Naruto Shippuden (and pretty much anything intended for a mature audience without doing proper research) as a real ball-dropping moment. I just hope this doesn't start anything and the vocal minority will forget about it as soon as possible.

They are talking about Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid, not Interspecies Reviewers.

I don’t quite see this one, as Netflix has pornographic content in tons of their original programming, but the iTunes app is rated as 12+.

AnimeLab and Wakanim are streaming it still, and they are Western streaming sites. Clearly this is a US thing.

Sidenote: Amazon pulling it probably comes from Funi pulling it and they probably wouldn't take their feed from AnimeLab.

I swear, if you ask me, all this bad press from feminists, to streaming services jumping ship, it just garners more attention for the series and makes it more relevant in the news and I love it Laughing

You know I see people going all “those pesky feminists trying to get this pulled” but I honestly didn’t see that much blowback compared to Goblin Slayer, Shield Hero, or even Nekopara. I really don’t think it’s “them” dude.

Yeah I'm not getting that vibe either. It's more like what they think would garner hate from feminists then self-censoring preemptively.

... and Funimation censored (with a black screens and dub cuts) said extra graphic content, so people can't cry foul by what they did not get a chance to see.

I have no idea if anime streaming companies do their homework and research the yet to be finished series they buy every season to see if said material adheres to their very unique "standards", but if they do not they have no one to blame but themselves.

And Wakanim in Norway pulled it from their site.
