Nails scratching on a blackboard would be great for a horror anime opening song. The last thing the students cleaning up the classroom at the end of the day hear is the sound of the evil oni scratching the blackboard. |

Despite there being no shortage of nice OPs this season, my favorite is easily Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan -Shinshō- as a matter of course. The latest rendition of a classic earworm I still haven't tired of over twenty years since first hearing the original.

I'm not familiar with most of the top five in the list, but of the sixteen spring anime shows that ended up on my weekly viewing list - Future Folktales is my favorite OP by far (it reminds me of Nico's Marble Index LP). Number two on the list is the fantastic soul, r & b track from Fruits Basket. Number three is the OP from Tamayomi; however, my overall favorite from spring is actually the ED from Tamayomi - "Plus Minus Zero no Housoku"

Certainly "My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!" OP should be mentioned. Angela sings it beautifully and the structure of the song fits the plot line perfectly. It is both pop music and classic (with operatic overtones), much like Bohemian Rhapsody. I laugh every time I hear it.
I also like the opening of Arte, sung by one of the two goddesses of anime music, Maaya Sakamoto. It is a slow and thoughtful voyage into romantic comedy. (Megumi Hayashibara is the other goddess). LOL! |
