These are some valid (and obvious) points and objecting these guidelines is far more reasonable than filing a lawsuit.

Same question now as when the lawsuit was filed: was there any reason why this was an ordinance when it could've just been a public health recommendation?

I don't get it..

"government passes "law" giving parents permission to enact punishments upon their children when they behave badly. Government has no plans to enforce law.. Outraged parents sue..."

What a world we live in.

If they're concerned about video game addiction, passing a blanket ordinance (even if they *did* enforce it) does nothing to address why people become addicted to video games. That "why" is important. For example, I've read anecdotally that for some people, playing video games to a level that is considered addiction is actually a way for the person to attempt to fulfill an (inter)personal need that is not being met elsewhere in their lives.

So if the people passing ordinances like this one actually care about the people addicted to video games, doing something like forming a committee with relevant professionals/experts to study the issue and learn about the root causes of video game addiction, and then brainstorming ways to address those root causes, is much more useful/helpful/productive at addressing the issue.

Then again, for instances like the kind I've read about anecdotally, that's a mental health issue, and from what I understand Japan is notoriously neglectful of mental health. So I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the people making these kinds of ordinances would gloss right over that possibility and go straight for a blanket restriction. Rolling Eyes

All i can say these laws their trying to pass their not going enforce is bit over reaching.
Who knows what exactly could happen when someone could use such rules against people. Lordy, kids have to internet for other things than games. Frankly, none their business.

If was different age, you could have made same argument with anime and especially mangas being too graphical or bad for the youth.

Its stupid law. Only thing i would want see is to have parents to be able punish their kids if they do bad things and not have worry about authorities getting in there ruining the family unless something REALLY bad happens other than dispiute between family members when you go to bed.
