Whatever happened to the second season of the anime?

It doesn't seem like their going to make a season 2 for anytime soon. I strongly dislike that alot of anime hint towards a second season in the last episode like the devil is a part time but it never happens. It's sad really I think that obviously the studio won't do anything until they are paid to make another season. You gotta remember alot of these anime are made with sole reason of promoting the original work(novels and manga).
