Let's just say it was because of COVID ... Yeah ...
And let's pretend it will acually happen ... Yeah ...

Are you seriously underestimating the capabilities of the virus?

Time to face the piper then. The opening 10 minutes are as terrible as the last one. Sigh.
Good luck with Shin Ultraman Anno. Godzilla was shockingly great.

Fine, then don’t watch it. Don’t ruin the experience for other people who have waited years to see this movie with your bitching.

I have still not seen any of them. Is there any legal way to outside of buying the Blu-Rays?

Unfortunately, I don't think so...

Khara had streamed all 3 of the films for free on YouTube for a limited time a little while back when the government lockdowns went into effect in Japan for a little while, but that was in Japanese-only.

I'm sure they'll work out some deal with some streaming service prior to the release outside Japan. Most likely it'll be Netflix, unless there's some issue with Funimation's licenses.

If your local public library in the U.S./Canada lets you borrow movies and has anime, check them out. You can sometimes be surprised by what they have!

If you live in the US, unfortunately no, they aren't streaming anywhere. If you're going to buy them, you'd better jump on the first film ASAP. Funimation's release has gone out of print and the price of the Bluray has shot up a lot on the second hand market. The DVD is still a bit cheaper, but it's getting up there too.

I think the 13 years between the first and this last movie was intentional. Anno knew exactly what he was doing (the COVID-19 virus just delayed finishing it a little, but 2021 was always the planned release date)

I'm more concerned as to who will get it in the US. Did Funi lose the whole license?

Funi never had the license for this one. Movies are generally handled individually, even if they're part of a series. I think the exception is those weird releases where it's like, six 45 minute theatrical films released a month apart each, like Broken Blade or Towanoquon. But yeah, Funimation had to license each of the previous three movies separately.

If I had to guess, the most likely other candidate to get it is Gkids. They might not use the same dub cast (hopefully they would), but at least their releases are really easy to reliably get.

IIRC, hasn't Khara stipulated a theater run as part of the license for the previous three films? I'm not familiar, does Gkids do theater runs? If not, I would think Funi stands a good chance of getting the last one.

Regardless of who gets it, I hope it gets it's NA release faster than the previous one did.

Yes, GKids does theater runs, at least on the limited, Fathom-Events basis, that a lot of anime gets here.

I was rather poking fun at the whole subject of "delay" surrounding Evangelion's final movie which at this point has become legendary. So, what I was trying to say was, that the producers just conveniently blamed the virus for the recent delay, which I think would have happened COVID or not. That's all.

The final film in the beginning of the year. The beginning of the end. Can't make this up.
