I have zero sympathy for this man. He deserves as many years as possible behind bars under police supervision, because he destroyed so many lives and livelihoods. He's an evil person.

^On the note of punitive measures, going by a recent case that I believe was also covered here on ANN (the guy who used Twitter to lure suicidal people to be "consensually" murdered by him - although the MOs were different, the level of disregard for the lives of fellow humans seems similar enough), I'd say likelihood is pretty high he'll get the death penalty. He deliberately caused a lot of pain and death via his actions, and for what? A supposed case of plagiarism that has been shown to have little to no merit at all. Methinks the justice system in Japan will not look kindly on these factors at all. Honestly the one thing I can think of that might mitigate things is that he's been a guinea pig for experimental burn treatments and they may not be done with him yet in that regard.
