Fun episode but felt pretty redundant, aside from Rean working at the shop there pretty much wasn't any development. Gugu and Fushi relationship essentially just did a 360, with Fushi needing Gugu to teach him stuff. People being scared of Gugu face and him not really having any other place to go was something we already knew, no need to spend half an episode on. Fushi not knowing how to do stuff was also something we already knew. I guess maybe the loser brother might come back now that he has the ring (maybe he'll get arrested for "stealing it" and this will merge with Rean story), but I doubt it. Just can't help but feel like the show was spinning it's wheel, maybe to stretch the run time to get to a specific point to end the story on.

This episode just proves that Oima can write any type of character and we'll get more attached to whoever it its. Poor Gugu is so nice but I now fear that he will die like what happened with the unnamed boy and March. Also, Fushi keeps being likable too.

I'm still sympathetic to Gugu but his complete indifference to Fushi's suffering when he was experimenting on him mitigated that a bit.

It's especially ironic since Gugu found out how the old man had experimented on him!

"It's not like it'll kill you." - Burning Fushi

"You're fine. It won't kill you." - Gugu's alcohol organ

Person watching with me said after the episode that he hopes the show isn't going to continue to be Gugu misery porn.

Laughing

Yes, I agree that Gugu's indifference to Fushi experimentation was ironic considering his reaction to his own experimentation trauma. So ironic, I was sure he was going to have some sort of epiphany that what he did to Fushi was wrong. Didn't happen, but maybe next week.

I thought it was a nice development. While Gugu is a Good Boy and he doesn't mean any harm, the reason he offered to become Fushi's "brother" was not necessarily out of selflessness or his attachment to Fushi, but mostly out of his own desire to prove Shin wrong and become a better older brother than him. That is good and all, but it shouldn't be your main reason for wanting to become brothers with someone.

In that sense, his promise to Fushi to be a good brother has to be put to the test. This becomes evident when Rean comes along and starts paying attention to Fushi and not him. That's when Gugu becomes cold and distant towards Fushi, to the point that he experiments with Fushi, just like Booze Man and Pioran jokingly said they would. Gugu intentionally hurts Fushi and, in that moment, he becomes a terrible older brother like Shin.

Of course, since karma's a bitch, Gugu gets a taste of his own medicine when he finds out the truth about his body and Booze Man pulls the "But it won't kill you" card on him. That's what later makes him realize the horrible things he did to Fushi.

Someone said his relationship with Fushi did a 360, but I'd argue the ending of episode 8 was actually the beginning of their bond as brothers.

Kawashima keeps nailing his job. He is still sounding deadpan but expresses a many emotions as possible especially when the wolf talks. Also, just realized Fushi is accomplishing March's dream too in regards to growing up in the fashion he is doing the same for the nameless boy

A shame Gugu's actor being replaced. If certain people watched the episode late but they saw the news of Teen Gugu, they would already been spoiled about his survival everybody feared.

Now, my most pressing question is this: why did Gugu and Fushi get to grow up while Rean didn't? At most her facial features changed very slightly.
Actually, how can Fushi grow at all? Is it the body just following nature? Will that be undone if he transforms to a wolf and back? Has March's form also grown?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was strange that Rein didn't appear to age at all.

If I had to guess about why Fushi is growing up it could be because Gugu is. Fushi has never been around a human long enough to see them age and grow so no part of him recognised that's a thing that people do, so maybe forming that brotherly bond with Gugu and having him grow up subconsciously caused Fushi to age as well. That's just a guess though.

The storyline with Rein's parents ended so differently to how I assumed it would. I thought they were going to be the cause of this arc's tragedy ever since the beginning. Her parents are rich and powerful and I've been terrified this entire arc that they were going to accuse Gugu of stealing her ring or kidnapping her and he'd get arrested and so on. The guy at the pawn shop seemed surprised when he saw the ring and then his brother had it and I thought maybe his brother would be arrested for stealing it and killed etc.

But no they were harsh and accused Gugu of scamming her but beyond that it didn't look like they had any intention of taking it further which I like.

As someone who watched the episode late, I figured it was a 50/50 between him surviving or having an imaginary flash-forward.

Nice that he came through for his little bro, though. I've gotta second not really noticing any growth from Rean at all though; her face looks pretty much the exact same.

Ps: noticed a little typo:

To Your Eternity is such a joy, so even though I don't know what's coming next for Fushi, Gugu, Rean, and the rest, but I am glad we still have so much time left to find out.

^ If you're going to point out typos, I think this one is much more important: "If that make your heart grow at least three sizes in your chest, well, I don't know if we could ever be friends." Either an essential word is missing, or James just doesn't like us anymore. Crying or Very sad

I mean, she didn't spend everyday working out like Gugu did. I did think it was weird that she was wearing either the same dress or a very similar one. Iwami Manaka did a great job making her sound older though and she deserves kudos for that

I don't know how intelligent knockers are or aren't, but their sense of dramatic timing is perfect. They stay hidden for four years, only to reappear in the right location at the right time.
Anyway, could we get some more death flags stuck on Gugu? We don't have enough.
