I've never understood what in God's name a virtual Youtuber is beyond "cell-shaded gif with a voice actor" so this makes somehow even less sense than that... ow. My brain.

Easy answer is a typical live streamer with an extra step. Basically same content, but you don't know the name and face of the streamer without them being doxxed.

I could see several reasons why someone might want to do this. They range from wanting to play a character, being self conscious about their looks, or a simple desire keep their private life private which would be a lot harder if they show their real face.
