What is the conspiracy in town is about? Something simple like trying to corrupt citizens and sow civil strife with a drug trade? Or something more complex involving the characters we have learnt about or maybe even a weapon against blessings and or the hero. I dont know yet with the details we have been given but the demon seems to suggest that it is focused on a larger picture rather then local politics at least.

Additionally I am curious about the sword given to Al. Clearly designed to feel menacing, is it a spying tool or something more sinister.

I am wondering about Gideon / Red. He talks the talk but he does not walk the walk when it comes to his budding relationship. In every action of Rit's he is passive, not even a little bit of an embrace is done his way. No hugging, the most he has done is a simple stroke of hair and that was only once. Is this to make him a non threatening character or is it a factor in the story that he is unable to engage in a relationship? Maybe he is bound by his guide blessing even now. I could be barking up the wrong tree of course but it is curious that he is so passive even when he is embraced or being kissed.

Rit is still the most adorable and lovable creature in the show. Frankly outside of the hero party story I feel like she is the main lead of the show.

Also I note this episode that Ares is continuing his portrayal as incompetent. I would like him to do something worthy of being in the heroes party.

Why in the world did the parents take shelter in the Thieves' Guild? I get that the guards may not have been a great spot, but that's a weird decision that doesn't make sense to me. Maybe seek refuge with the adventurers?

What did you think of the dub?

I guess there's no opinion.

Sorry, I rarely watch dubs anymore unless it's with my friends who don't want to watch anime but are willing to watch a Studio Ghibli film. I have no problem with Dubs, but the dubs i think are the best are the ones I grew up watching on Toonami, Adult Swim and WB, etc. i just prefer subs .

I was mainly asking the writer of these reviews but eh whatever.

I didn't realize I was supposed to thinking "being protected by/taking refuge in" as I thought it was all "missing, presumed slaughtered".

And that includes Bighawk. I think someone's using the thieves guild for demon shenanigans and now that the Hero has a magical vehicle of magical transportation... the series is being coy about having Gideon and Ruti reuniting and that's the only thing irritating me, I like the rest of it.

So not only is their a drug plot, but corruption, civil unrest, possible demon infiltration...it's getting harder and harder for Red and Rit to maintain their slow lifestyle in Zoltan.

I guess that dude blowing up was karma for getting Rit to step on him and peek up her skirt.

So has Danan been possessed or is someone posing as him? I guess it was too convenient that he'd be willing to not bother Gideon when he saw how happy he was in his new life.

Ares continues to be useless, and just when it seems like he's finally realizing his mistake, he just doubles down and blames other people.

I would totally watch a show that's just Rit fighting crime and coming home to recharge to her loving and supportive husband.

Poor Ruti. An airship is a JRPG staple but she's so numb to everything and chafing under the Hero's Blessing that she can't enjoy it because she doesn't truly feel free in the sky.

Maybe the thieves guild pressured them into doing it. Seems like they're keeping tabs on Tanta too, so they're trying to keep the family contained somehow.

I don't think Ruti could be evil. I don't think her Blessing would relax control enough for her to make that kind of choice. I would, based on what the anime has shown, consider her to largely be amoral- beyond norms and conventions of morality, much like an automaton. She must perform in her role- there is no actual choice for her.

Hence why she finds the demons so interesting in the recent episode. They also have blessings that force them to be evil, just as she is forced to be the ultimate good. In a roundabout way, she's bo different from the de.ons she's slaying because they're both just playing out the roles a higher power doled out to them.

Yeah, this seems the most likely scenario.

Pretty clear that all of this is connected. My guess is that someone's trying to take control of Zoltan in an underhanded-enough way that those with justice-oriented Blessings won't be triggered to get involved. If it really is demons, though, have to wonder about the strategic value.

Yeah, the episode was definitely over-stuffed, but I didn't find it to be to a problematic level.

Wow, that definitely felt accelerated. Great to see so much action and the show remaining beautiful through it.

spoiler[They didn't really have a choice. Bighawk rules the area they live in. They were basically escorted there by his underlings].

Oh sorry. I didn't realize you were asking me!

I actually haven't heard the dub. I think the last English dub I watched of any anime was Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (which is absolutely amazing).

Given my arachnophobia, I think there has to be something really wrong with a show when my favorite character is a spider.

Seriously, though, I just suffer from constant cultural dissonance as it keeps trying to shoehorn 21st century issues into a medieval setting.

I am curious what you mean by this? The blessings system certain seems very magical, almost geass like. The drugs thing? Compared to modern times primitive drugs where commonplace in both the pre industrial era and somewhat in the earlier eras though I am no expert past those times. I am confident that opiates and poppy seed would be around in those times as well as things like extracts from mushrooms, frogs and various other early chemist products. And no doubt there would be both mind altering and addictive qualities to some treatments.

As for supporting the drugs being sensible in world I would say their effect is very magical. Heck I would say its almost engineered as a weapon.

Its worth noting that this isnt traditional Tolkien medieval. This is a setting like Final Fantasy with magecraft and technology mixed together.

Last review I was mistaken about Al's connection to Red. Al is not Red's friend's son. He's Red's friend's sister's son's friend. I hope that makes things clear.
Def not, but, we'll roll with it

Shout out to the Best Character in the series Mister Crawly Wawly for coming in clutch this week.

Demons in the far away town O No! Not sure if Danan is actually himself, a evil mastermind or if he's been possessed by a demon. I thought he was the evil mastermind until another reader pointed out he was approached in a bar in a previous episode.

Does anyone else feel like the 2 sides of the show arnt meshing together quite well? I certainly found them to be disparate in this episode. The romance and their experiences in zoltan is completely fine but the payoff in the intrigue doesnt seem to belong in the same show.

Basically it feels like we arnt doing any of the work in determining the intrigue and actions of the main character. The drug had a good build up, but we went from totally not involved to infiltrating the mastermind and unravelling the plot in the empty time between episodes. It creates an uncanny valley like feeling in the character writing. I think this disparity comes from how serious the series took its background to how flippant it is in resolving it.

If given the chance I would of definitely wanted to expand on the thieves guild and alberts involvment with them. As well as develop Red's motivation better then I cant let Al get hurt.

So everyone drops their pitchforks and hoes and sledges, having seen the light. Very dramatic...until they all have to bend down to pick them back up again to take them home when they disperse. Laughing

@Cryten: I agree, I think. I mean it seemed like the jump from shy kisses and lap sitting to sleeping and bathing together was a bit abrupt (but I'm used to just handwaving such as my usual forgetfulness or missing details, so I'm not much bothered even when it's not). Good fan service for all though. Smile
