Myne's an admirable character but a bit selfish. She's really focused on creating books to satiate her hunger to read. She never thinks about the broader social implications of her actions though she's clearly on a path to upend this world.

Many inventors in own past did not realize what their inventions would do to the world, but some did and still did it anyway.

To end WW2 the people working on the atomic bomb knew how bad it would be, but did it anyway because they did not like the alternative. Same for the people working on early machine guns. They knew they would kill people.

Mid level is the people working on planes just saw it as a faster way to travel, but once they got flight working, dropping bombs came straight to mind.

On the other hand the people working on the early internet did not see the porn and gambling industries that would develop.

You can't control the future.

True for now, but she gets less selfish as time goes on. And she can be quite generous spoiler[and protective to people within her orbit (the latter coming up soon).]

Ep. 33 - Adapted Vol 2, Part 4 pages 29-43.

With only 10 Episodes listed for this season I'm beginning to think they might not finish Volume 2, or cut a big chunk out, or leave us on a cliff-hanger.....

Hopefully they will finish the volume as it's a good clean cut point for the LN. spoiler[The foreboding building up this season comes to a head and the preverbal shit hits the fan - lots of plot lines and threads get tidied up or chopped off completely]

The post credit scenes this season have chucked in some very important back-story that's been cut from the main adaptation.

Only 10 episodes.......................

They better not be cutting out anything of the end of this arc. No cliff hangers. The ending scene must be in there and fully animated, and they must have the post ending scenes.

If they cut back the episode count to make this the hard end for this arc, I have no problem with that, because this is a hard end. A spoiler[tragic and sad one]. But nontheless a fitting one. But they must not cut any corners on it. The post ending scene in the church and the one in the town, must be in there. If there is a next season, it is one of a new beginning, and has no need for flashbacks to tell, what they should have told at the end of this season.

They have been doing a good job so far, but this is such a pivital moment, that it must be told fully in its spoiler[tragic consquences.]

Where are you getting the "10 episodes"? Can't find it in the news and the page has 12 listed (which doesn't even include the 26.5 recap episode). Not saying the encyclopedia page can't be wrong, they are often just a preliminary number of episodes listed.

What I find lacking in the episode recap is no mention of the High Priest's attendant telling Delia a couple episodes ago that a noble was going to arrive soon, one interested in kids- making Delia think it's a chance to be a concubine (but neglecting to tell Delia that he was interested in kids with the Devouring). That, plus her now wrongly believing Main is the one threatening Dirk's safety, puts Delia well in the position to accidentally deliver Dirk to this apparently sinister noble.

It is listed as 10 episodes in many places. It is also said, that the reason is to maintain the end to this arc and not have unrelated filler at the end.. If everyone is wrong, that would be great too.

For me recaps are not that important, so if something is not repeated, it doesn't bother me.

That quick scene of Delia and Arno together over the well tells quite the story with only a glance.

Sooo... episode 34.

The first half is quite gently-paced, indulging in the show's trademark booknerdery. And that's fine. But then...

The second half is rather darker. spoiler[There's an abortive attempt by an outside noble to get into the city, which triggers a security lockdown. Then at the end of the episode, said noble has a second attempt, is successful and stuffs Myne into a bag. We're clearly in the end-game for this season now.]

Good use of the musical cues again throughout this episode. They're minimal and add well to the sense of growing threat. While this show's BGM isn't exceptional, the way in which it's used is very good indeed.

In terms of the light novel, it's clear now where they're going to end this in broad terms. The big question is what they pick as their final scene. spoiler[Myne's funeral would be the obvious choice, but depending on how they pace the final episode, they could go a bit beyond that.]

I just wanna see the spoiler["crushing"](?) animated. That was one of the better dramatic scenes in the novels and I really like how they animate Myne's eyes when her mana starts to go a bit wild.

Anyway, given the sheer amount of novels already published, a single cour seems kinda insufficient. At this rate it'll be ages before we get to all the insanity at spoiler[the Academy.]

The positive way to look at it, is that they have plenty of stuff for another full season.

I really appreciated the direct scenes of Evil Santa in this episode, which we only get secondhand in the novel. Yes, Myne, please heed Fran's warning; you do not want to be in the same room with him!

And Delia, so oblivious. She is genuinely happy, thinking she's solved this problem perfectly...

A number of seasons. And I'd be here for every one of them.

This week's review mentions the incredibly confusing choice of Head Priest and High Priest for Ferdinand and Bezewanst for the subtitles respectively, and 100 times yes. I so wish they would adjust the subtitles to High Priest and High Bishop, as in the light novels, or something else. I don't know why they don't all use the same lexicon for various terms.

But this is why so many fans spontaneously use the labels Ferdinand and Evil Santa to refer to them.

As the story progresses, though, clarity in those titles becomes more important as we sometimes talk about those roles and what place and influence the role has in the world somewhat separated from the person currently holding them. I hope if there's a next season they make the adjustment somehow.

(PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let there be a next season. There is so much good stuff to adapt!)

Yes, I've made this point before - if we do get another season beyond this, the need to describe roles and status precisely will become very important. The light novel translation choices aren't without flaws (I get the point somebody made a few pages back on it having "high bishop" but not "bishop" and "archduke" but not "duke"), but they are at least easy to parse. The anime sub choices are just too easily confused.

That would be my main complaint, if it weren't for... well... Main.

They should just switch to the LN translations, with a quick screen of explanation up at the start of an episode. No politics to this, just pure readability.
