I hope that this doesn't get considered a recommendation thread, as I'm more curious about ones that make significant improvements over the source material as opposed to ones that carter to my specific tastes, and the topic requires broader and more specific knowledge than just a recommendation.
The most often cited example is the Mobile Suit Gundam films, which add a lot to the original story before going its own path, and the Rebuild of Evangelion project starts as a compilation movie before going in a completely different direction, though I'm curious as to what other movies do this. |
