Hundreds of years ago? When do you think the Civil War took place? oO
Between Autumn's power and the airplane, I was getting some serious JoJo's vibes from Anno Un's intro episode.

1. Hey, it rolls off the tongue a lot better than "one hundred and sixty two-ish years ago"
2. Technically, if you factor in all the Loops, this probably took place *thousands* of years ago!

I didn't realize when I first read the manga that that wasn't just Juiz with short hair or in a male form, it was in a loop before sex was added as a rule so she simply wasn't a woman yet until then.
It also didn't really hit me as much how similar JuizxVictor are to AndyxFuko, where both ladies are these strong-willed women who don't give up while they men who love them would do anything for them...though Andy would rather support Fuko in her efforts rather than be like Victor who wants to kill Juiz to save her from what he thinks is a pointless effort.
Props to Yuichi Nakamura for doing a great job differentiating between Andy and Victor's voice.
Watching Andy and Victor clash like in the OP was great, especially showing how far Andy has come, and how far he and Fuko have come to the point where they can really weaponize Fuko's Unluck.
I guess even a War God like Victhor is weak to a punch to the nuts.
And now we've got a full on kiss from the lips to grace Fuko back to the real world and so they can take on Autumn!

Andy did not know about any of the previous loops so it would have to be one hundred and sixty two-ish years ago right. Unless I missed a detail about Andy knowing about the loops beforehand.

From this point on souls become a major part of the story. Even now in the manga we're learning new things about Negator souls.
2 episodes left, I'm not sure if they can finish the arc that quickly, there's still a lot to do. This might be a bit of a speed run!

They perfectly captured Akira's story in all it's cruel tragedy yet inspirational heroism.
Unseen goes out exactly as the psycho deserves.
Bunny still super cute!
Was that Ayako Kawasumi as Akira's mom and Sumire Uesaka as Yusai?
They've gone so meta that the next episode preview, past the point Anno Un can tell what's going to happen, doesn't have narration any more.
Seems like they were really holding out the best pacing and animation for these last few episodes.

Man, I really didn't see any path for them to complete the arc in its entirety with one episode left, but this episode felt like an hour long. I'm a believer, they've nailed the pacing now. Next episode is going to be pretty crazy (though i suppose you can say that about most episodes).
RIP Sean see you later

As someone who fell in love with the manga after binging it the week the anime started, I'm praying to all the powers that be that we get S2 confirmed because I've never seen a series get better and better the more and more it goes on as Undead Unluck does. And it's so overlooked and underrated, both the manga and the anime, that it's practically criminal. It doesn't have the mainstream appeal of traditional shonen heroes (shippable hot guys, generically sexy women, what have you), but people really don't know what they're missing. It has some of the most satisfying writing I've ever seen in a manga and Fuuko is one of my favorite female characters on the face of the entire planet, and certainly one of the best female characters in all of anime and manga.

Glad to see the reviewer so passionate about this show. UU needs more love. Really hoping for more seasons, since it only gets even better from here.

This made me wonder if we watched the same show
Agree it deserves more attention, though. I feel like it sort of got Hulu-jailed this season.

Quote: | How else can you explain that this big, thrilling final battle against UMA Autumn was interrupted by yet another extended recap sequence, and I was delighted by it? |
There's a good reason for this: It's in the manga, Akira's childish sketches and all. Akira was an instant favorite for readers, during the first fan poll he ranked #3 behind Andy and Fukko and #1 and #2 respectively, In the third fan poll (the second one was for pairings) he ranked #4 despite not having had a major role in the story since this ark years prior (wont say who ranked #4, that's a spoiler). That's not to say he doesn't come back at all...
Oddly enough the arc isn't quite over, there's actually a bit between where we last see Andy and Fuko and the bit we see of Juiz talking to Billy. I'm guessing that's the jumping off point for the next season. The next arc is a short one before we get into the other three seasons, but Andy and Fuko aren't the primary focus on them, they're for other Union members to shine through so fully completing the Autumn arc at the start of the next season makes sense.
There's this rule in comics where the most interesting villains are the ones you can sympathize with and Under has a lot of interesting villains. There's a few members that still haven't been introduced yet, one even had a recent cameo.

I can say that David Productions obviously knew where they wanted to end this season even if they had to have a very...unconventional pace because of it, but they knocked it out of the park in these final episodes.
We get more insight into Rip and Latla's story which adds a whole lot more interesting subtext to their relationship dynamic (and was that Kana Ichinose as Leila?). They compare/contrast with Andy/Fuko so much and work well together with them, but their goals just keep them apart.
Akira was the stories' most tragic and most inspirational character, fitting for an author in that way. He wanted to do right by favorite characters and help them chart their own future, and in the process lost his only physical tie to this world, but he'll forever be remembered and live on through that.
I hope this isn't the end of animated Undead Unluck because, some issues aside, this was a fantastic adaption and I would love to see some more of the hype content past this point get adapted!
