Saying what I said last time this happened

What kills me about news like this is the implication that someone’s art, that was made with intent and purpose, written with thought and care in mind, will now be at the mercy of a machine that will not take ANY original intent into the same regard. It feels disrespectful.

This kind of project is the testing grounds for if the world will accept or reject the level of standards that the AI produces. Not the critics or die hard fans, but if the common reader or consumer of media find the efforts of the translation passable and enjoyable or not.

If no-one picks up World Teacher again after Tentai, and it receives an AI translation, well, between a choice of some or none, I choose some even with the downsides....

Well then maybe they should wait until it's done to use it for stuff like this

You can't always wait for the iron to be red hot. Sometimes you have to hit while it's tepid. Either way, I doubt an AI translating anime/manga/light novels into another language is going way.

It's like selling you a really good car that doesn't have a steering wheel but don't worry they're really close to finishing the steering wheel so just buy it now!

That explains the Cyber Truck design.

Regardless, just like came up with the Ancient Magus' Bride thread, people who want the Japanese publishers to use "AI" translations because they think they'll be more accurate, more faithful, and dare I say "woke-free" than translations from real people who are familiar with both languages and cultures, are going to be disappointed. They're just going to get MTL garbage. And I would not be surprised if they censor the content to fit what they think most Americans want.

As you said, some of the problems have been editors removing entire sections of a light novel. AI translation doesn't mean no more editors. I suppose it could mean that, but I wonder how coherent that will come out.
