It amazes me how many people are truly ignorant and uneducated about many aspects of life, yet they’re still allowed to push their own ignorance and beliefs onto others. So very glad to know that graphic violence, language, sexual harassment and assault, and heterosexual relationships found in Chainsaw Man and The Seven Deadly Sins are “age-appropriate obscene, explicit content” that is acceptable for these kids, but a homosexual relationship is not. The state of Florida is truly the backend of the donkey, rivaled only by the great western steer itself, Texas.
That Megan Wright was racist in her remarks about how East Asian countries read books and homophobic towards the romantic relationship between Sasaki and Miyano is absolutely disgusting. She should be ashamed of herself for being so lazy and inept to not utilize fact-based decision making prior to her objection and comments. She clearly decides things based on her personal and religious views and not based on what’s best for ALL students. Megan Wright is the epitome of see you next Tuesday. Having worked in education for a decade and worked closely with many school board members, I can say that too many sitting school board members today are using their board seat as a stepping stone. These people barely care about the students. It’s all an act. They are there to pander to their supporters so they can further their own agendas and political careers. Anyone who sits on a public school board should be required to have experience working in public schools. Not just teachers or administrators but also all of the support staff for whom no teacher or administrator would be able to do their jobs without. |

But y'see Seven Deadly Sins is clearly about the Bible right? So it's fine for the childrens.
Also, I hate to break it to her but all the replacement suggestions, in addition to having actual objectionable content, are also read from right to left. ...Is the book actually banned or is it just one lady complaining? And again, this is proof that it doesn't matter how wholesome or unproblematic LGBT fiction is, to homophobes it's all the same. |

Harry Potter's book ban back in the 90s was fueled by religious fear over Satanism because of the witchcraft stuff. These days Harry Potter's ban is fueled by left-wing fear over people not liking Rowling. It's not so much the content in the books so much as what they either represent or personal political motivations. The content in Harry Potter itself is not graphic or sexual at all. Of the latter two books I've only read Animorphs and from what I remember the only really objectional thing in it was violence. Violence tends to not be seen as a big issue compared to sexual themes in America so it's no surprise if people didn't care. I can't recall if there were any Animorphs book in my school's library but there were some crime dramas though I remember reading. I remember seeing a volume of Inuyasha at my school library and the page where Kagome was naked bathing was ripped out. No idea if it was the staff who did that or some horny guy though Probably the later.
According to the article it was removed from the school library. Getting books removed from school libraries generally starts with a parent or something lodging a complaint. When I was in school it was parents complaining about To Kill a Mockingbird and Huck Finn to the district. None of the other manga titles mentioned were added to the library either it was just a random suggestion that the district has no obligation to follow. |

This is getting ridiculous. Didn't the mom also suggest Chainsaw Man and Sailor Moon as possible alternatives for the manga section? -_-
According to an American friend of mine, sometimes the school district will bow down even if the complaint comes from people who don't even have children within that school district. Just retirees with nothing better to do than worry about what kind of books and comics the kids are reading. Wasn't there also some complaint about Assassination Classroom that these people hid behind 'concerns about students shooting their teacher'... even though if they'd have just turned the page, there was an in-story explanation for why everyone was shooting at Koro-sensei? I hope they're made a mockery of just like Mary Whitehouse and the Brigade of Light or whatever her watchdog group was called who crusaded to 'make British television cleaner'. Are there multiple examples of Harry Potter book bans due to Rowling's views, as opposed to boycotts? |

I want to say I'm surprised, but unfortunately I'm not.

Yeah, I've never at all heard of someone on the left trying to get Harry Potter banned, just, "Hey, can we maybe please stop giving money to the transphobic mold zombie?" |

I mean, the entirety of last year was people losing their minds over the Hogwarts Legacy video game. The drama led to events banning any Harry Potter game from being played in general as well ass even discussing it on certain forums and communities Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts has also been pulled from and had a number of events cancelled at places like conventions, art exhibits and museums across the world due to one or two people raising concerns. |

They're just "cousins," right? That'd probably play great in a lot of Florida. |

The reason they have for banning it is homophobic as well as racist.

If one reads the last link, one would find Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts were not banned there. If one reads the other links, one would find they were not just "one or two people raising concerns." In all the cases, they were not book bans. Again, are there multiple examples of Harry Potter book bans due to Rowling's views, as opposed to boycotts? |

GOD THIS IS SO STUPID. Sasaki and Miyano is one of the most wholesome BL stories to come out in recent years!!! Their reasoning is racist and homophobic! It's 2024 LOVE IS LOVE GET OVER IT. Boys can love boys, girls can love girls.

Advocating to ban some stuff but not others isn't really helping since what's considered problematic is going to depend on each individual person and clearly they view that series as problematic BL. Comments like this just come off like people upset other people have that power to remove stuff they don't like and they don't. Saying people need to be "wiped off the map" over a book not being in a library is pretty disturbing. |
