Ocean were just hired by Toei to produce a dub. Same thing happened with World Trigger and Dragon Quest Dai. Toei's always been responsible for distributing those. I assume Pretty Cure's dub was just "forgotten" about like Bobobobobobobo's (pre-Discotek) or even World Trigger's (pre-Crunchyroll). The first season aired in its entirety in multiple countries and it's recent enough that those materials should be digital. I'm sure they have it. The issue is just getting them to do something with it. |

Sadly, as good and awesome as the dub was, its still a kids channel dub which means it has censorship in it, I absolutely loved it, to me to this day it is the best kid friendly dub.
But if they brought it back, the name changes, the censorship of scenes that are proven to be contradicted later on (ie they would need to change dialogue in Max Heart to make it fit if they decide to continue.) makes me think we need a redub. Yet I think we need to bring back the Blue Water crew for this. Michelle Molineux and Rocio Barahona probably are way more experienced now and working on an uncut dub would be easy. Not to mention a HUMONGOUS anime franchise being dubbed in Canada again would mean jobs for HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. |

They did but it's not the HD remasters which they released the BDs for Futari wa, Max Heart and Splash Star last year. The latter two are streaming in 1080p on CR but Futari wa is still in 480p |

The Nippon Golden Network broadcast masters were replaced in 2021 when Crunchyroll got rights for the show in Europe so they have since been using the Japanese DVD masters with better sound and multiple sub options (so no English hardsubs either). The only reason to re-release them now is if Toei gives them the Japanese Blu-ray masters that came out last year but who knows if that's even worth it since it was a Q-Tec upscale of those same DVD masters.
You mean the same dub that Toei commissioned themselves after pulling the license from 4Kids?
I wouldn't put Bobobo here considering that dub did get re-released before back when those hacks at S'more had it. |

Between the Smores release and Discotek, there was near 8 year period where they did nothing with it. Even now, they're not doing much with it. It's been 4 years since that Discotek release and it still isn't streaming anywhere. I don't think any of the alterations done to Pretty Cure's dub are a major problem. Toei distributes far more heavily changed dubs of their properties, including, you know, Glitter Force. If there was some attempt to dub Max Heart, I'm sure they'd find a way to write around things. Toei produces Digimon dubs that still carry the baggage of late '90s/early '00s Saban. I'm sure there will be another Pretty Cure dub in the future. It probably won't be Max Heart or something as old, though. The big issue is getting it in front of people. Toei is terrible at distribution. A kids show like this, going direct to Crunchyroll, or even worse, their beloved Hoopla and DTO platforms, just guarantees obscurity. They've gotten World Trigger and Dai onto mainstream platforms, but if Netflix wanted more Pretty Cure, there would've been more Glitter Force. They don't seem big on non-established kids anime either. Out of the many shows they've funded, I think Dino Girl Gauko remains their only kid-specific original. Disney doesn't treat third party IPs all that well. Paramount+ and Max have limited reach, especially outside of the U.S. Toei rarely puts new things on the AVOD services. It's a tough problem to solve. |

What censorship did it have? (Besides text change and the takoyaki-donuts conversion) |

I love the Pretty Cure dub and think it's easily the best English-language effort the franchise has received thus far, but I'd rather they not dub Max Heart next.
The past two attempts at dubbing PreCure did so with titles that were already a few years old when the dub came out. So if we ever get another PreCure dub, I'd like to see them actually dub the latest series. Either do a simuldub of the currently simulcasting series or a dub of the series that ended the year prior. I also think they'd be wise to do an uncut, faithful dub after how the previous dubbing efforts have underperformed. Not to mention it's the kind of dub the Crunchyroll audience would be most receptive to. Might as well lean into what's working with the English-speaking fans!
It's good they've updated the video masters, but are they still using the Nippon Golden Network translation for it? |

Oh thank heaven. I'll have to try to watch it again. Believe me when I say the old release was a travesty and a sin against anyone's hearing. |

The whole "The World War II flashback is now about an earthquake" which is plot critical for Otona. Other than that there really isnt much censorship. The Takoyaki thing also creates minor plotholes should Max Heart be dubbed: Hikari, who would probably need to be renamed should the old dub be continued, goes to buy octopus for Akane in Max Heart. The Text Change was great, the only edits the dub ever did, if you sync up the dub with the Japanese version, boom, you have the best release ever. |

I don't think it should matter which season Toei chooses for dubbing. Smile did have some popularity under GF, and I don't think dubbing the most recent seasons would work due to possible crossover cameos (like Sora showing up in Wonderful). It'll also depend on who Toei will be aiming the dub towards; will it be for kids or adults? If the latter, I can see them getting away with dubbing an older season or even redub Futari Wa. |

Unfortunately yes, same thing happened with Air Master after they updated the video for it in 2020 so it was expected.
Funny you say this because when Saban got Smile it was the latest series. |

If you want to be really accurate it was the series that ended the year before, but Doki Doki was airing at the moment.

Depends on when the deal was actually made since it was believed to have been part of a package deal with Digimon and that was announced in September 2012. |
