The roller coaster action sequence was the first one (of many) in the manga that made my jaw drop. The anime version wasn’t quite as good, but I was pretty satisfied.

I don't exactly think the animation's anything to write home about but not really sure what about it is causing so much blowback. It looks fine? It's not like it's looking like the Ace Attorney anime or something, maybe it's just not being familiar with the manga talking but I feel like the look of the thing is acceptable even if it's not setting the world on fire.

That must have been one really short roller coaster ride. The fight didn't last that long before they dropped into the kids' show, already in progress, and with the Sakamoto family, who were on the roller coaster with Shin, already in the audience.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about the fact that Lu was helping her family bury bodies and she didn't even know it (or did she?). She doesn't have the best job credentials but she's cute, so...
Tomokazu Sugita really earned his paycheck in this episode. Ah, I miss Lu and Shin's banter. Nagumo makes his debut! With assassin buddies like him, who needs enemies? And Natsuki Hanae is well cast. Wow, the Sakamoto family went from that rollercoaster to the hero show real fast...and perfect timing for Sakamoto to guide Bunny Shin to delivering an epic beatdown. Also, props to that emcee girl for just rolling with the craziness, though I'm not used to seeing a Disneyland equivalent with their own Hero Show. |

If you thought the Assassin High School idea was neat, they’ll expand on that a lot later.

I think it's partly a comparison to the art in the manga, but also a comparison to the other Jump series. Jump anime have been look amazing for the last several years and while a few haven't been eye popping (Yozakura Family for example) by and large they've been given top tier treatment. So have the series you've been waiting years for to get an adaptation (the manga hits 200 chapters next week) only for it to be fine is just a let down. |

Honestly you could probably
I loved Boiled and Obiguro when they first turned up and I love them even more animated. Just a hard-boiled softie still reeling from how his "best friend" was more popular with ladies and didn't acknowlege them along with his sexy, sassy, partner who is head-over-heels in love with him. Also the animation added to Obiguro's attractiveness even more. What martial arts master doesn't fight better drunk? And drunk Ayaneru is worth the price of admission. Talk about "liquid courage." Welcome back Skinny Taro Sakamoto! |

The character's name is just Boiled. Iirc, he made a point of insisting on that. Hard-boiled is only his aspiration. Great character though, no matter what his handle is.
I appreciate that Sakamoto's skills are the same regardless of his weight. I expect him to do a lot of yo-yoing now. I'm also glad his wife knows what's up now. That joke could've gotten stale real fast in this, despite being a staple of sit-coms for ages. The JAA reminds me of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, what with its version of Fukuoka, where 3% of the population are professional killers, which works out to about 49,000. In comparison, a mere 400 in all of Japan almost sounds reasonable. ![]() Last edited by Gina Szanboti on Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:23 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Drunken Master Lu going through the several stages of drunkeness while fighting a continually aroused Obiguro is fantastic. I feel sorry for those guys who were so looking forward to eviscerating Shin though...
I understand manga readers' complaints that TMS just isn't quite doing the series, and action, justice...honestly I think it's clear they may not have been the right studio for this. Yet I'm still enjoying the anime all the same. Well, nice of Sakamoto and Boiled to get that girl out of a situation with a guy she clearly didn't feel like kissing. Also props to that employee for prioritizing who has to pay for damages to the ferris wheel! The only thing more scary than trained assassins is a ticked off wife mad you were keeping secrets from her. But at least fending off assassins is a good business opportunity and Hana can learn some things while being her cute self! The Order! Slur! The plot is developing and thickening! |

Remember to watch the credits cos they keep adding scenes. They didn't add much but we keep seeing how Sakamoto's love life started

Ah Heisuke, my favorite friendly, down-on-his-luck, and deadly efficient sniper! He may be dumb, but he makes up for it in enthusiasm, care for his bird, and lethal sniping skills!
Drunk Lu can be a blessing in a fight but can also cause fights. That's not what a cheerleader is supposed to do, Lu! There's just something about assassin corporate structure where they treat it like an office job where you need to be well-rounded that just kills me. At the same time, it's probably not a good business to not know how to maximize someone with such amazing sniping skills. Sakamoto and Aoi are adorable together. |

Pretty sure that was one of those "parents' days" they usually have at Japanese elementary schools. Like this, only less traumatizing. |

It surprises me how subtle the comedy of the anime can be even when the actions are ridiculously violent. I still can't forget episode for referencing decapiation and have the murderers be depicted as famous assassins who even draw the heads they slice. After Shin made that exposition, the two brothers start arguing like "Bro! We are famous! Isn't that cool?" which led to "No! We are supposed to be secret!"
Not even Gintama went this far when it came to mixing gore and comedy in serious arcs |

Despite their bickering, I find Shin and Lu cute together.
Nothing puts into perspective how you were too hard on your friend like seeing the guys that kidnapped you use the same complaints towards him. What intelligent and professional kidnappers. Honestly Tanaka's complete ineptitude just made him more endearing. Also, Seba is such a vibe. They really stretched the Sakamoto rule against killing in this episode. Though I guess assassins in this setting are built tough so maybe they survived...? Sakamoto will go through a lot for Hana's sake, but sometimes you have to make a functionally moving t-rex skeleton go the way of the rest of the dinosaurs. Shishiba and Osaragi! Oh, and Kashima finally appears! |
