I think a lot of Revy's "charm" would be lost if this ends up airing on Adult Swim, several funny lines that come immediately to mind would have to be bleeped or have words substituted. I'm not saying that the swearing makes the lines, but I think that cleaning this up for broadcast TV would make the characters sound hokey instead of gritty as they are now.

Bottom line: buy the DVD so they hurry up with that 3rd season. Wink

edit: spelling, and to add that I'm glad that Best Buy doesn't check release dates like Fry's does.

I'd like to see it happen unfortunately there would be a lot of editing done to this show in order to get it to air on [AS]. If anything it would have to be an IFC/Stars type of deal, I suggest buying the DVD it's that damn good.

The original Japanese dub was pretty harsh, and the English dub even moreso. A lot of the dialogue would have to get bleeped or edited. Heck, [as] couldn't even play the opener unedited because of its lyrics. There's also some pretty intensely graphic violence, too, although probably nothing beyond what's been shown on Blood+.

I agree with others that Encore Action Channel would be the right broadcast fit for this one.

Can someone give examples of some of the violence? I enjoy gun/weapon violence, but if it starts getting into disembowelment (gore and guts; just blood's ok) or sexual violence, I get a little queasy. For example, Basilisk kind of toed the line of my tolerance (although I still enjoyed it), and Ninja Scroll went way over it (didn't like this at all). But I love great fight scenes with guns and swords (Cowboy Bebop, Kenshin, Le Chevalier d'Eon, etc.). Another example is I can't stand teen slasher horror flicks, but Kill Bill was ok because it was mostly stylized violence.

I guess that's pretty close to it, this is how I normally tell my friends about Black Lagoon. Hey remember Noir? Get rid of the boring story, and add in actually blood instead of people just falling over, and oh yeah it straight run and gun fun....

Was I the only one surprised that Geneon got the Ocean Group to provide the dub voices? It's a real rarity for them to use them over the California actors, so I was pretty surprised. But it seems it worked out well for them, so I'll have to check it out.

Hmm, yea and no since Geneon has used the Ocean Group before in other titles especially for the more recent ones like Shakugan no Shana and Ayakashi (though they have been using Blue Water Studios before fairly recently as well).

I might pick this up whenever Geneon releases a set of either the first season or both combined. Black Lagoon is mindless but in a very fun way, and I knew instantly from the moment that I heard it was going to be animated (read a bit of the manga beforehand) that it would work much better in English. Glad to hear that the dub meets the standards.

There's supposedly some issues (read: lack of money) that doesn't really allow Geneon to get something like a New Generation Pictures dub as they please. So they go to Ocean Group instead, or outsource (see: Zipang and Karin).

nothing they couldn't show on adult swim. your usual gun battles, some knives too. it escalates a bit later on though. in Second Barrage for instance spoiler[a little girl [or boy?] gets shot in the head.] that won't be out for a long time though.

They've given it to Odex, the ones behind the Fantastic Children English dub. I have no freakin' clue as to why as it already has the original manga released by Tokyopop, its getting an art box, and I don't think it would be an impossible sell (I wouldn't know since I haven't seen or read either the anime or manga).

It's particularly strange when you think that they gave something like Ayakashi ~ Samurai Horror Tales an Ocean dub when I would think that's even more of a niche target audience to sell it to. (It also doesn't help when they release the second story arc first, which isn't anything special at all compared to the first story arc, and is nothing compared to the amazing third story arc.)

It's understandable that they would put in some good talent with Black Lagoon because it is going to be a good seller, but they're decisions otherwise are questionable.

And yeah, even though it's chances are incredibly low due to the adult content, I'd be giddy to see this series air on [adult swim].

Oh, please tell me that Odex Pte. Ltd. doesn't have that last one. . .

<checks>

@#$% And I actually was looking forward to that dub, too. . .

I suppose it's possible they have improved enough that we might hear a halfway decent dub for Karin, but if even I am trashing their track record, it's not a good sign. Crying or Very sad

One of the things I loved was spoiler[that Revi is shown to be badass and no one to trifle with, but NOT invincible. The crew stays alive because of their skills, yes, but also a good measure of luck AND connections....]

Geneon used to use Ocean quite a bit several years ago, though mainly for titles nobody seemed to watch, such as "SoulTaker" and "Master Keaton". Which is a shame, because those dubs are very good, apparently.
