It's amazing to see a company breaking the law so completely and utterly without fear. Shows just how little people care about international copyright law doesn't it. Fansubbers I can understand. Some anime companies still view them as a positive or at least benign force. I don't think anyone thinks bootlegs are a good thing. Unfortunately, I doubt anyone will do anything about this. Probably the only way fans could do anything would be to buy the bootlegs and then file a class-action lawsuit. (Which isn't going to happen because no one would want to pay the lawyer, even though the suit could work. At the very least, it would get their serious attention.) |

Looks like amazon finally caved and is pulling it from the site. The boxset picture is there, but it's now titleless and non-clickable for me.

No that's actually a different Bootleg Sailor Moon, but it's not being sold through amazon. Whereas the bootleg we were discussing was being purchase directly from amazon and not one of marketplace sellers. I think that having the item tag boycott amazon probably helped a little bit with it being pulled, and all those email I left them. |

It is almost understandable in a way; there are some legitimate items that use the word "bootleg" in the title and whoever corrected the name quite probably just saw a lot of updates saying the same thing and assumed that many people couldn't be wrong...

If you are Amazon.com, how do you buy a Bootleg? No legitimate distributor would have this in their catalog. Amazon would be buying direct from producers anyway. We pretty much agree this product was not legitimately produced, therefore no legitimate recording company would have it.
Just makes me wonder if they are sourcing other low-cost DVDs from overseas. |
