So he's already familiar with anime, having written the Golgo 13 "remake" with Jean Reno. Rolling Eyes

Yes, while Luc Besson's The Professional isn't credited as being a direct live-action version of Osamu Dezaki's Golgo 13: The Professional, the character and movie name similarities make the connections very obvious.

Luc Besson is my all time favorite film director with only Hayao Miyazaki being a close second. And I am a big fan of the Besson/Kamen team that has actually put out quite a few Asain and Japanese pop culture-inspired films namely The Transporter, The Fifth Element and a couple others. If any anime fans are not familiar with Luc Besson's work I highly recommend that they check out many of his films.

My favorite is Le Gran Bleu (aka The Big Blue) which has a very shoujoesque storyline with all the drama and fantasy you'd normally see in an anime, plus a very Ghibli-like setting. I'm not sure if Mark Kamen was involved in the writing of this though.

BTW when looking at Mark Kamen's name does one think of Kamen Rider. Maybe a Besson/Kamen adaptation of this series is on the slate with Mark being credited as the "Kamen Writer" Laughing
