Now that's interesting. Bandai to re-release 'Aika'? That was 'CPM's baby. But again never would have expected it to show up in Bandai's hands.

Now that's a series I never quite finished. And still haven't . Saw 2 eps back in late 90's to 00. And later I got as far as episode 4 last year. That's it.

As much as I hated panties in my face so much () it did have an interesting plot. Which is the ONLY reason I wanted to finish the damn thing. I always wanted to know more about the backstory surrounding 'Aika'. Then finally 'R-16' came out. Who knew they would read my mind? Shocked The questions will now be answered. Hopefully. And now the series is coming stateside. Time for more panty magic. Of the once again youthful kind Razz

MMMm boy, I can hardly wait. <want>

Hmm, never knew Agent Aika was popular enough to warrant a sequel. As Aika is the poor man's Najica, one would hope they decide to make a sequel for that as well...

It probably hasn't been updated--as I said on the Funi thread, there aren't many people who can change the licensing status in the Encyclopedia, and most of them are busy with AX right now.

Aside from the much-anticipated Code Geass, I also thought Bandai might announce something like Soukou no Strain -- from the episodes I saw, it seemed like a decent space/mecha anime, with plenty of fanservice included Evil or Very Mad Ah well, there's always other cons.

I'm extremely glad to see the Silent Mobius films get their due. Now I can throw out my old VHS fansub copies of the two films. I'm glad that at least someone isn't so interested in all this new stuff coming out to give some of the classic stuff a bit more of a go. Those have needed to come out for a long time now.

I'm surprised about Aika though. Looks like CPM is really going down the tubes. Such a shame. They were one of the pioneers of the American Anime Industry. It'll be a shame when they go down (if they already haven't). I'll be there saluting them the entire way down though.

Wow... that was boring. I guess I'll end up buying the SEED Destiny specials but nothing else interests me.

Oh, I'm so sorry that they didn't license your favorite harem show, but I'll be content with the Silent Mobius movies, which are probably among the best anime sci-fi epics next to Akira.

Yeah. Sorry about that post. ^^; I realized after I had posted that message that the page has not been updated yet and will be slowly, so I therefore quickly deleted that post soon after. I guess was caught. ^^;

Except the Silent Mobius films stopped suddenly at a highly unacceptable and incomplete point, making them very awkward to watch. The production values, writing, etc. were all good, but the film series is ultimately an unfinished product (and not even an unfinished product that managed a half-decent stopping point that allowed it to be even slightly self-contained, a la Twelve Kingdoms). And really, their biggest appeal was that they were a rare property with a murky licensing history that made them (until now) perpetually unavailable. Their biggest draw was that they were so unimaginably rare. Calling them "the best sci-fi anime epic" is a bit much given that they were a stunted work-in-progress that really never got very far, and serve as little more than fanboy material in the state they're in now.

So really, with everyone else busting out big name licenses at Expo, the fact that Bandai Entertainment's biggest feather in its cap is a cheap repackaging of a show that's almost universally hated outside of Japan (Gundam SEED Destiny) is a bit of a disappointment.

Nagisa: I still prefer them over Silent Crisis-I mean the tv show. Razz Rolling Eyes And their appeal is more than that, as you've just stated, when you brought up their production values. As for being cut short, watch Blood.

Meh. Nothing of interest here.

I was hoping to see Stratos 4 Advance but I can't say I was expecting it. Code Geass is inevitable and I'd just as soon they wait until after episodes 24&25 air anyways. Then again, they'll probably be fansubbed regardless so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Without Code Geass... Bandai's lineup is rather disappointing. Most of their acquisitions movies of old series (Gundam Seed Destiny, Silent Mobius, and the yet to be released Zeta Gundam Movies). Losing Love Hina is also a bad sign. (Since it was one of their best series outside the Mecha genre) Code Geass better be the Ace up their Sleeve, because Haruhi might become the only significant release from the company in 2007. (Along with the end of Eureka Seven and GSD). I was predicting Darker than Black to go to them also, but looks like someone beat them to the punch. With Funi's strong lineup, Viz's Shonen Jump Powerhouse titles, ADV and Geneon to compete with, it looks like Bandai has got their work cut out for them.

IMHO it's the other way around—after watching Aika, I found Najika to be rather unentertaining. It just did not grab me the way Aika did.

There's a difference between being cut short and having all the installments moronically spread across every media format imaginable (as is the case with Blood, a movie here, a novel there, a manga way over yonder...). Though I will give you that the Silent Mobius movies, even as unfinished scraps, were miles better than the TV series.

Some good news I guess, although I was hoping for a Banner of the Stars III and Stratos4 Advance announcement.

I wonder what is taking Banner so long. Didn't the first three series do fairly well for R1 sales? I would also think that the time is right with the novels being released. This is indeed one title that I'm really tempted (due to it's short length) on buying the R2 for.

I also enjoyed the Silent Mobius films and love the OST for them. The television series had it's moments, but overall was way to light in tone and reminded me too much of Borgman. Wasn't Silent Mobius originally double billed with Arslan? I remember thinking the idea for these shorter film series was really neat at the time.

Now here's the "million dollar question" from me:

Since Bandai Ent had managed to get Garbage Seed Destiny, will they recycle this piece of garbage by placing Shinn up front as the male lead? Or will it be destined to stay in the garbage can and keep Athrun as the male lead?

The Silent Mobius movies? Okay!

The remastered Aika and new Aika-16? When there's other, better anime porn out there?

Garbage SEED Destiny. I like that. Very Happy

Also, as I understand it, the Destiny Special Editions restructure the series so that Athrun remains a consistent lead (instead of Kira conquering as in the TV series), though they try to use his place in the series as a "neutral ground" to fairly cover both Shinn and Kira as each of them develop. Or something. Given how Destiny fell through on its original promises regarding the story (Shinn as lead, Kira in miniscule role, Athrun as mentor, etc.), I highly doubt this plan for the Special Editions panned out, either.
