Too bad the thread turned into religious/political debate ... but lets continue.

Quote:
And you are conveniently looking past the numerous times Israel has been invaded and had its citizens killed.

Israel has not been invaded and occupied since 1948. Israel, however, did occupy Lebanon for 18 years (1982 to 2000). Hizbullah came into existence as a response. Israel is occupying the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Golan Heights and building settlements on these territory (in clear violation of 4th Geneva Convention that forbids occupying power to transfer it's civilian population to the occupied territory).

Quote:
Don't think Israel ever took other nation's Olympic athletes hostages and executed them.

Israel is a nation state. The Olympic hostages were taken by a group (not a country) -- PFLP -- a Palestinian group with communist roots. There were NO religiously motivated militant groups in the 70s. PFLP was secular with communist roots. Religious militant groups started in the 80s -- like Hamas in 1987 and Hizbullah in 1982.

PFLP didn't plan to kill the Olympic athletes. They were ambushed by German special forces and in response they killed athletes.

Israel has been involved in target assassinations since the 70s. Many civilians have been killed in these operations -- far more than Israeli killed by terrorist groups.

Before creation of Israel (pre 1948), Zionist militant groups did do terrorist operations -- such as King David hotel bombing by Irgun.

At one point Islam controlled a hefty chunk of Southwest Europe that included most of Spain.

And that was the most tolerant period in Spain's history -- more tolerant than anywhere else in Europe at that time. Some Jews call it Golden Age. What happened to Jews and Muslims when Christians re-conquered Spain? Look up Inquisition.

Quote:
The Taliban occupation of Afghanistan had some morbid results including the destruction of an old and historically significant giant Buddha statue.

Afghanistan has been Muslim for 1,400 years. Apparently the Buddha statues survived 1,400 years of Islam before Taliban. Taliban were/are a product of 20-year war -- first against Russians then internal civil war.

Quote:
And there are about the same if not more Muslims in Europe. So what?

No, there are less Muslims in Western Europe than Christians in Muslim countries. Muslims in Europe is a recent post-Christian phenomena -- and can be partly explained by Europeans with low birth rates needing migrant workers, poor economic situation in North Africa, and Europeans recent history as colonial powers (i.e. Algerians migrants in France). Europe has no history of diversity. There is rising xenophobia against Muslims in Europe since Muslim numbers are growing in Europe. I doubt there is any long term future for minorities in Europe. We know what happened only 60 years ago in Germany.

There was no visible criticism from moderate elements when there were riots and calls for execution a year or so ago when a Danish editorial cartoonist drew some unflattering pictures of Mohammed.

Where were the moderate voices in Serbia?

Were has been the been the criticism of the political and religious leadership of Iran when they have publicly stated they wanted to basically wipe Israel off the map and a host of other anti-semitic comments?

Where was the criticism when Anne Coulter suggested Muslim countries be invaded, their leaders killed, and their populace forced into Christianity?

Quote:
In more traditional Islamic countries, they do imprison and/or execute dissenting journalists and authors.

We blew up a hotel full of journalists, and imprisoned people with no evidence, and sent them to prisons where they could be tortured.

Quote:
Western culture has an incredibly odd double standard of it being OK to incessantly bash Christianity, but it is unacceptable to apply the same amount of ridicule towards Islam.

That's because Christianity is a joke, and Bush is its jester.

Quote:

So that makes it ok to kill and invade Iraq and Afghanistan's citizens?

Quote:

Um, the Taliban were our buddies when we were fighting the commies. And why aren't you mentioning the looting of the Iraqi Museum which resulted in far more cultural destruction?

Quote:

Right... the same country whose legal system rules against nativity scenes on public property is conducting a crusade.

That's how Bush phrased it...

As opposed to the leftwing nuts who pick up on some impending environmental crisis every decade or so that never happens,

Yes, polar bears drowning, drought, ice melting off of mountains, New Orleans getting wiped out, and water wars in Darfur are just coincidence. Oh, and Bush 1 supported the Kyoto Protocol, so does that make him a leftwing nut, too?

Fox is no worse than CNN, MSNBC, or even Al-Jazeera.

Trashing black people and re-writing Wikipedia makes them worse to me.

I usually think of OPEC, especially when I pull up to the pump and find it's gone up yet another 2, or 3 pence a litre.

Why are you blaming OPEC, and not the American oil companies keeping you from owning an electric car?

I really dislike Fox, but that is a weak argument. If someone in a large organization edited Wikipedia. Big deal. Thousands of people work in these large organizations. If some employee used the company computer to edit Wikipedia (instead of say watching porn), that doesn't prove he is speaking for the company or that it's official policy of the company to influence Wikipedia.

Rightwing blogs have made the same arguments about the New York Times and Al Jazeera (example: someone at the New York Times edited Wikipedia's George Bush article with things like 'jerk' and someone at Al Jazeera vandalized Israel article).

The same IP from Al Jazeera that vandalized Israel article (happened 4 times between April 13-16 2006) had some of these edits

"[[Burhanuddin Rabbani|Burhanidin Rabani]], (Tajhik) from [[Badakshan]] (west). Notorious War Lord, killer and rapist. true he has raped the mother and sisters of the person who has written this page. so the writer is giving his eye witness account.?

and another gem:

"you could eat off the streets it was that clean, in fact the communist had turned Afghanistan in to the most beautiful country in the world and Kabul was its example, the communists had cleaned all the villages and cities. But Rabani said “I do not like it” I want to destroy it so "

Anyone with an IQ over 70 can see that this is some employee who is wasting time at work by playing on the computer -- instead of some grand scheme by the company to influence Wikipedia.

Truly fascinating. Indeed. I'm sure it would play well in a political blog's comments section.

But this is not a political blog. It's an anime forum, and any content even remotely relevant to this forum has long since disappeared from this thread.

LOCKED with a bullet.
