I bought Robot 1 and 2 because I thought the covers looked nice, and I respect the skill of Range Murata's artwork. But I have to say I was very disappointed by what was inside. He only draws two or three pages inside each volume and the rest are by other artists. Some of the other artists are fairly good too, but over half of them are garbage IMO (sorry for being so blunt, but this is the only way I know of to get my point across as to how bad I think they really are). And a third of them are nasty porns, ugh (I am not criticizing the porn in general, just when it is drawn in art styles that I find disgusting).

To be honest, Robot doesn't seem to me to be something fit for a North American release. I'm very surprised it ever got released here to begin with, considering what is inside (both in terms of art quality and story content). I'm not saying it's a bad artbook, but I wouldn't think something like this would have much of an audience so I'm not surprised that DMP stopped publishing it. And I'll be surprised if Udon sticks with it and publishes every single volume of Robot that remains.

Just to be clear, I do think it's a good thing that Robot is being published here and it's good that people who like it can get a translated version (since Robot consists of very short stories, a translation is fairly useful compared to many other artbooks). I just don't expect it to be profitable over here.

I wonder if part of the problem here is eBay?

I looked before and seeing the average shipping cost range around 20 bucks (sometimes the book itself is cheaper), I'd think that drive away a few hesitant costumers.

Udon has published a few manga. I haven't read them yet, but the few they released so far are centered around Street Fighter.

That's why I find all this so odd to see basically fighting game (Capcom, in particular) fanboys going ahead with a unique series like Robot, but we'll see how it turns out this winter.
