Considering the badge re-engineering, renaming due to (list reason/silly explanation/name is culturally insensitive here), and other alliances and buyouts in the Automotive Industry, i'm surprised nobody has made slash fiction of cars yet. But it has come dangerously close....but I'll spare you the horror. And no, the Japanese have barely crossed the line given what Doujinshi's have produced with the various sexual fetishes. Thank God for that.

I didn't read most of the alternate endings, since I haven't seen the series they discuss, but to the person who composed the one for Cowboy Bebop: I feel like you missed the point of the entire series. Spike's whole life apart from Julia was, as he said, "just a dream." Without her, the dream's over. This has nothing at all to do with "glorifying death," or even vengeance; Spike has nothing left to live for, and so he goes to confront the one remnant of his past, the one man capable of showing him if he is, in his words, "truly alive." Your suggestion would, in my humble opinion, utterly destroy what's one of the best endings of any series I've ever seen. That is all.

Agreed. It was a fitting end to a series that played silly at first, but then got serious towards the end. It's like taking a classic book and completely rewriting the ending; spoiler[Allowing characters like Romeo and Juliet to live and run off rather than commit suicide, or screwing around with the "10+ years after" aspect of Harry Potter being in love with....um, whats her name? Ah, can't remember right now.] Sometimes it's best to leave things alone. They got wrapped up for a specific reason.

I think in this day and age, with the notion that thanks to YouTube and other video-sharing sites on the net, combined with the increased amount of easy-to-use video editing software, that "anyone can be a filmmaker" has kind of deluded a lot of people who honestly just don't have the creativity or the talent to create something worthwhile into thinking that they have awesome ideas, which they don't.

But is this really new to the current age? It's probably more common, granted, but delusions like this have existed (and been acted upon) for pretty much as long as there's been a publishing industry. Otherwise publishing companies wouldn't have "slush piles."

I've been wrapped up in too many manga vs. anime debates of late, so I won't even come near that one. Razz

I think one of the reasons that Evangelion didn't get mentioned is probably because of the glut of doujinshi out there (like Re-Take or Evangelion Iron Maiden). All the possible rewrites have been done!

As for the Shuffle! ending, I dug it because that was one of the possibilities that I never considered. If M. Night was involved, he'd say, "What a twist!" and we'd all have a laugh. But seriously, that ending made me like the show more in retrospect, as opposed to if he'd hooked up with any of the more prominent characters. Likewise for School Days, which took an interesting turn at the end.

And speaking as a future celebrity master chef *for* a celebrity master chef, I'd like to point out that Mario Batali actually did seared foie gras with a freakin' strawberry Starburst gastrique sauce while he was working down in San Francisco. That's not too far off from a chopped up Big Mac.

I always thought "ki" was the same as "chi" - the stuff Dragon Ball/Z/GT characters seem to use to shoot laser beams out of their hands or become absurdly fast/muscular after an hour "powering up".

That was what I suspected too: 気/氣, ki in Japanese and chi/qi in Chinese. While it literally means "air," the concept of ki is more similar to ether: an element that posesses energy-like characteristics, independent from the basic elements (four in Greek, five in Chinese), and is flowing throughout the universe (including within human bodies).

Funny Answerman. I prefer anime over manga, but there are some series that are awesome in manga. I tried to watch all of Monster, but I end up reading the manga.

Also on the naming "ki," I thought the person meant "ki" and in 木, but then must of assume that "ki" was 火. Come on, naming a character "tree" is odd, but awesome! Behold, the awesome power of the tree!!! xD If I was going to use "Ki," I would use this 気. Wouldn't that be clique'?

Also, anyone else was surprised no one picked up ending changes for Eva? Personally, I would prefer blood over tang ending. Then again, that is just me. xD

Are these goofy fans going to get their self-made wannabe crap published? Nope. Are we (besides Zac) ever going to see any of it? Not unless we go looking for it. So what's the big deal here? Let their parents and peers dry their tears and let's move on. Besides, most anime is childish clichéd crap, and I'm talking about the professional titles that are sold for real money. The anime I like, I really and truly enjoy, but most of it is still trashy beyond belief even in my personal view.

As for advertising, it's universally bad in my view, almost without exception. As Zac mentioned it's not so much because advertisers can't come up with anything good, but more because they can't get good ideas past the comities who approve advertising. Sad but true.

Dax Omni’s New Rules:

1. If you’re going to complain about other people not being original enough, don't do it with a photo-shopped avatar.

2. If you’re going to use the word “really” don’t use it more than twice in a row.

Botanical superpowers are not new in anime/manga. A recent example is Suiseiseki of Rozen Maiden.

Dax is back?! Nice to see you again.

As far as delusions of grandeur go in the show submissions Zac receives, all you have to do is watch an ep of American Idol tryouts to see that delusions of talent come in all forms.
I remember an interview with the singer Jewel, who was a judge in the country music version of Idol. She said that some of the people who tried out were so bad that at first she figured they couldn't seriously think they could sing, but then she realized that, yes, they were completely serious. She said that the enormous gap between their belief and reality was just staggering to her.

As far as the alternate endings, I disagreed with most all of the submissions Zac posted. Some people have already jumped on the Cowboy Bebop one, so I'll move on.
The ending was about the only thing that was good about Shuffle!. That show is worth checking out just to see what I consider a revolt amongst the show's writers. They were forced to write awful material at the outset, but then you could see them slipping in signs of intelligence and reality through the middle parts, and then they revolted in full around ep 21 or so. The show's pivotal moment was when one of the harem girls spoiler[slapped the protagonist]. From then on, the show was actually a pretty good drama.
It's been a couple of years since I saw Samurai 7, but the stunt that Kirara pulled in that show still sticks out in my mind. She left a perfectly good guy when she thought she might be able to bag the merc leader. I mean, why stick with a young pup when she could have the leader of the pack, the Alpha Male. Imo, she was the selfish, disrespectful one, and got just what she deserved.
Most anime shows end with feel-good, miracle endings or huge, operatic death scenes. Chrono Crusade is unique in its ending, and said ending is cherished my many, if not most, of the show's fans, and it one of the main reasons why the show elevates itself above most other action series.

about changing SHUFFLE ending - it's funny how fanboys of Kaede claims that ending ruins the whole series Anime smile
Shuffle is nicely executed, above average harem anime, nothing more, nothing less... and its ending was best of all posible ones (as speaking as Asa-sempai fan Cool )

but, in this case, there is easy solution for all Kaede (Primula, Sia, Nerine) fans - get the original game and make your choise ~_^

Yeah...Some dreams should be crushed. Just because it's your dream doesn't mean it isn't also stupid beyond words.

I must say though, I think there are probably fans out there with genuinely good ideas for anime. These are probably also the ones who are smart enough to realize that Zac is not the emperor of anime and can not magically make your anime happen. In fact, they are probably smart enough to realize that even if they do have a good idea, it just isn't plausable to get it actually made. The only thing close to possible is to try and make a career for yourself as an OEL Manga artist.

[sarcasm]or they could, dun dun dunnnnnn,

write a book.

I know, I know,
seems like some crazy nonsensical idea(probably right up there with trying to make an anime..oh wait) ,but they did make an anime based on The Count of Monte Cristo, which I think might just have been based on a book.[/sarcasm]

lol, Hmm just think about that hot car on car yaoi action. Just as Mitsubishi-kun and Toyota-kun are about to get it on Scion-kun(toyota-kuns little brother)pulls in to the garage. Can you say incest threesome yaoi.

There was something like the MitsubishixToyotakun naming in Magic Knight Rayearth season 2. One of the factions was named after Cars, if I remember correctly, there was one character named Geo Metro and he had car named friends.

one of the funnier installment in hey, answerman! especially these parts:

Quote:
And before you ask, yes, people have sent in lead characters named "Hitachi". One I recall from a while back featured a lead named "Mitsubishi". Assuming this was a joke, I emailed them back and asked if they'd heard of Mitsubishi, the car manufacturer. They said "Whoops! I guess I forgot about that! Oh well my fans won't care ^___^"

Your fans, right. Forgot about them. They'll be too busy writing slashfic about Mitsubishi being secretly in love with his nemesis, Toyota-kun.

What sort of lazy-ass tagline is that? "Who is She?" What are they expecting, someone to say "Who is she? I don't know, but boy oh boy I can't wait to drop 25 bucks to find out!". Plus they misspelled "correspondence". Above this was an ad for Shuffle! with the tagline "Which girl would you choose?". Yep, that's pretty much the point of the show. It's like using "Dudes fight in space!" as a tagline for Star Wars.

i couldn't stop laughing for 5 minutes because of those parts Very Happy

The best anime taglines are often wasted on porn. For example, take the one for Lady Blue, the sequel to La Blue Girl:

"Take Miko Mido home! (Everyone else has.)"

You know, this reminds me of a advertisment I saw (I can't remember if it was a t-shirt, a poster, or a billboard for Ohayocon[considering the nature of it, I'm guessing one of the two formers]) and it had a picture of Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Children on it, but he had the fluffy, purple Miko Mido hair and he posed looking straight ahead into the piece. Underneath him read "La Bloo Girl".

I lol'ed.

I'm a on-again-off-again member of ANN, but I just HAD to come back on to post against my arch-nemesis the KKK (Kito-Kito-Kaede Club). Oh how I love pissing them off.

I will accept that people have "preferences" in harem or harem-esques animes (I myself love the long-eared Nerine *drool*) but to base an entire show off who the protagonist "chooses" is just stupid. Perhaps not always if the show has nothing else to offer BUT that, but I found Shuffle! to be enjoyable on levels beyond that, and it really irks me to hear people (especially KKK fans) to go "OMG why didn't he choose XXX thats so UNCO~OL!" You want to lambase a show, pick the qualities that actually matter, like how the last five or so episodes were strung together to create a pseudo-dramatic effect that most anybody else wold yell "Are you f**king stupid?" at the protagonist and his romantic interest. Or the fact that they completely ignored all the other girls for most of the last half of the show?

Shuffle! is not the best show around, but it is probably one of the best harem shows I've seen, because there's an actual hardcore driven plot behind all of the bewbs. And truth be told, if the person who wrote the Answerfans column had been a fan of Sia, Nerine, or Primula, I wouldn't have responded (lucky you Anime smallmouth), but there are just so many reasons why Kaede is not a good choice for a romantic interest, and the main reasons is she is nuttier than a fruitcake. She is School Days insane. I'm tempted to link legitmate reasons, but I've taken enough of ANN's time.

And thanks for destorying my dream Zac. *deletes his 5kb story* That was supposed to have lasted a good 52 episodes...
