To me it just sounds like he wanted a change. He hates where he lives and probaly isnt happy so he wants to go to a place where he is happy.

I have had friends that left good jobs because they couldnt stand the city they were in.

WHAT?!?! Tim and Eric? Those no talent idiots? That is an automatic fail for the magazine.

I just can't understand why these magazines can just stay within a general scope of a subject instead of jumping around trying to be the next....whatever. Heck, I would've at least given the mag a look if they had stayed within the general Japanese Culture.

Uh, in case you didn't read the article:

Or just read a little further in the same thread:

lol, Tim and Eric can be funny but it's still pretty messed up and not something I would want to read about either.

One thing I'm really curious about is whether it's been confirmed that last months issue was really the last. It said the first issue of PiQ will go on sale in mid-march ...so does that mean we don't get anything this month????

The Japanese version has an amazing Code Geass cover and I REALLY want to get that as the final bang.

Sorry, but the Feb 08 issue with Devil May Cry on the cover is the last NTUSA Crying or Very sad

Oh wow, the ship hasn't even left port and the rats are abandoning it.

I just read Robert's weekly newsletter from RACS, and none of the Feb 12th releases have shipped yet. So far, the only news is that nothing is cancelled, and that the volumes will be shipping "soon". He also added that ADV says to keep taking orders as usual. The only question is what "soon" means.
I don't hold any hope for vague words like "soon" with ADV.

I meen how long has Keroro Gunsou have been coming "soon"?

So, they'll feature that crap in some other issue, and continues to be, epic failure for the magazine.

I don't see his leaving as a sign ADV is going to die (that sign would be the problems they're having with Sojitz, the folks who gave them lots of money so they wouldn't die sooner and the fact that they haven't shipped any of their scheduled titles). I just see it as another sign this magazine isn't going to be all that good for anime fans. I believe him when he says it was just personal reasons and he wanted to go somewhere that he's happier and can find a better job doing something he enjoys, which obviously isn't working on ADV's new venture. Good luck to him. I'll take a look at the first issue at Borders, but I haven't had much enthusiasm for it since I found out they were slashing most of the anime coverage for other, more mainstream things.

You just earned yourself a big fat pat on the back! I couldn't agree with you more. When I saw that show listed on the mock-up awhile back, my opinion of the new magazine dropped immediately.

I don't think there's necessarily any reason to think that Mr. Steinman's leaving is over the absolute bile that PiQ may well be. Then again, I don't think there's any reason beyond his word, which will never give a bad opinion of his previous employers unless he never wants to work again, to believe that he isn't leaving over the magazine being terrible. I plan to give PiQ a chance. However, there weren't a lot of things that I really cared about in Newtype USA. (Lots of pretty pictures is nice, Japanese articles are cool, they just weren't what got me to subscribe or buy.)

My overall expectations have been lowered again.

This speculation that "ADV is doomed" is total B.S. Take it from someone who lives in thier Houston,Texas headqaurters who's met most of the V.A.s,ADR directors, and market coridnators. During this quarter ADV has had to make some changes, The Anime Network fares better on VOD then as a cable network,Why do you think Funimation discontinued it's network? As for Newtype that was Kadokawa Shoten's decision to bail out of ADV's five year deal refusing to entend thier contract. And the decision to pull a dozen new titles was a minor license extension matter and nothing else, ADV says they will be availible for purchase again next month.

Now in regaurds to PiQ, this man's reasons for wanting to move to the Bay Area are the same reasons why I want to move to Oakland,Ca. Rest assured this matter will be cleared up.

So ADV is not showing any signs of doom! We KNOW what happened to Geneon and why they folded but ADV is making several changes only there March fiscal comes in they we'll have plenty to look foward to.

Mr. Steinman can only speak for the first issue since that's the only one he (was) in charge of. Mr. Steinman can't talk about future issues because he'll be half a country away. Fortunately, if ADV is reading this thread, then the next person in charge will probably make sure it won't be in future issues either. Wink

Others have said the VA's give as much gloom and doom to ADV's future as we are. Why believe you over them?

Personally, I never saw any of this as bad. Actually saw it as some wise business decisions. Until I found out what the new mag was going to be. But that's just a matter of personal preference. It may do very well for them, I just won't be buying it. Though I do like VOD a lot. If only they'd cater to us sub fans, I'd give them some money there, too. But we don't count. Wink

ADV actually hasn't said word one about the releases they pulled. They haven't said why they were pulled, why they haven't shipped, what's going on with them, or when we can expect to see them again. Except to you. So you'll understand why I don't take your reassurance as anything other than more talk. I don't know who you are, which is the primary problem. If you have been told something that no one else has, though, it's great to hear.

I don't share your optimism. Especially when the company is having to be so silent about what it's doing. I understand they can't talk while the discussions with the people who hold them over a financial barrel are taking place, but it's still a bit unnerving. DLW has always been one of the more vocal members of the industry, after all. When he gets quite, it's usually a bad thing.

Why is this [adult swim] trash even being given a spotlight on the mock-up cover? It's not worth the money it's made with... Utter trash.

Well, hopefully everyone is wrong but in the Kanon 2 thread it seems that no one has been able to get a copy of the 2nd volume despite it was supposed to be released this week. I put Kanon 2 on an order among 4 other things, so I expected it later but.... usually amazon will split the order if it's over the 30$ limit and they didn't this time.

Can anyone confirm that they have a copy of Kanon 2 which was released this week? That'd go along way towards eliminating my fears personally.

Well, I have Kanon vol.2 + Box on order from DeepDiscount.com, and I emailed them asking why it hadn't shipped yet. They told me that it's backordered with a scheduled ship date from the manufacturer of Feb. 25th, so everyone who's ordered should get it from their respective sites by early March, I'd assume. Cheers!

I don't think ADV are dying, I just think they're grosely incompetent at releasing the stuff I want.
Namely Gunsou, Lagann, Jing OVA and, yes, I would of taken a fling at Mermaid Melody's diretion if only to see how things would of worked for teh dub work.

Augh! That's what I figured, but I was trying to hold out hope.

So that would mean no issue this month. Dang it, I picked a horrible time to subscribe. I've gotten 1 issue in a 3 month span ;____;

...and what we are getting next is not why I signed up.
