It's definitely rotting from the inside out, if that's what you mean.

Though again, the core problem is the anime itself. Despite that out money may have influences on what gets made in Japan, are the Japanese otaku not the first audience it passes through? Until they get off this moe binge, anime will steadily spin down into nothing. And then maybe we'll have better content again. Most of the shows I buy and plan on buying are the exceptions for the season they aired or they're a lot older. I'm finding a lot less anime that worth it as well.

That has been noted since anime fans think that anime should be free and that mentality hurts in the long run. Whole ordeal that anime should be free because it is showed in TV in Japan makes it the same in America. I'm waiting for the part when Japan is going to cease anime distribution across the sea. This is getting out of hand. I told many fans but they rather not listen. Now I rather just kick back and see the end results.

While personally, I don't watch fansubbed anime nor anythign on CrunchyRoll. I do understand what people are saying, and I'm glad that FUNimation is stepping up. Along with being a sucker for nostalgia, I'm also a sucker in the sense I only watch what's available on TV for the most part. And, if I like a series enough I'll buy the DVDs. The fact that CrunchyRoll hurts the future of more content being released on DVD and so forth, greatly angers me, as the same with many of you.

I hope more companies will follow-up on this statement soon with their own acknowledgement and support. If not then the R1 anime industry will continue to suffer, and so will my access to anime, as someone who is unable to watch fansubbed anime (I have an eye condition that makes reading subtitles difficult), and is limited to what we get in Canada (at least US still get shows like Samurai champloo, and Cowboy Bebop without having to pay for an additional channel).

No, let's not have Funimation and other anime companies start acting like the RIAA.

But I never knew that they had a serious issue with piracy. I just recent discovered how strict Funimation is on thier coypright infrigments last week when I tried to transfer episodes of Desert Punk onto a DVD disc from my tape on a DVD recorder and the player actaully gave me a message saying: "Cannot copy to disc, copyright vilation." I was like "What the Hell?" Then I tried it with Witchblade and I got the same message.

Now I have to wait until Starz reruns the episodes during the summer to record them on DVD, I hope Funimation isn't strict with recording. I'm gonna try to record Witchblade this friday on a blank disc, I hope it works.

To answer your question in the simplest possible fashion, it will take far less time for them to respond if they are called then if they are not called.

The actual answer is that they would respond much more quickly than you think. The Cyber Investigations Division and Financial Crimes Section aren't responsible for investigating murder or drug trafficking (nor terrorism, espionage, public corruption, civil rights, organized crime, or other major thefts/violent crime). There are people there to get the job done, and a lot of them don't have a lot on their plates besides a few mail fraud cases and slam-dumking child-pornography possession cases.

Bottom line: there's a lot of money in play here, for an activity that continues on an ongoing basis. That's higher profile than your average fraud or CP possession case. I'm sure some ambitious agents in CID and/or FCS would be on this like a duck on a june bug if someone would make a complaint.

Check out Operation Copycat and Operation Site Down if you think that the FBI really can't be motivated to do something when shoved.

It really is disgusting how far everything is plunging. I'm going to Anime Boston next week and I feel like I'm one of those "The End Is Near!" homeless guy types proclaiming the end of the world.

Disregarding anything else you said, I have to focus on this. It's a shame that more anime isn't on TV. TV exposure would obviously lead to more sales. I guess FUNi, ADV and the rest have tried though. Sure there may be channels that you get through satellite or equivalent, like IFC, but what's really needed is a Cartoon Network from 7-8 years ago with anime everywhere and a constantly expanding catalogue. Code Geass isn't airing until 12:30, that's some good prime time exposure right there. Automatically thousands of people will hardly know the show exists, thousands of potential customers are lost. I know I'm completely skewing the argument, but the solution to help save the anime industry lies in large cable networks playing gratuitous amounts of anime. Sadly, unless the current ones change their ways, progress will never be made here.

You have a good point my friend. If you have basic cable you can catch some anime on Cartoon Network via adult swim or toonami. Sci Fi has Tactics and Noein but those are only shown on mondays. The problem with this is that these shows are mostly all aired late at night. Maybe if more people had a chance to check out anime on TV then DVD sales and viewer ratings will increase.

Exactly, and what's played on TV is probably less than 1% of what's available. And I'm largely against blind buying because it's all too easy to end up with a crappy show. Seeing is believing, more anime needs to be exposed through passive ways, like basic cable. Seeking out stuff like g4, fuse, IFC or wherever else anime plays is not being passive, it's be active in seeking anime. For basic cable, most of time (or it's turning this way), it's included in rent or with fees if you live in a development. So it's impossible to avoid.

Okay I'm confused, I have used crunchyroll before but I have never had to pay for it. So, do some people pay for more advanced services on there or what?
And I agree with the people above me, I think more anime should be shown on tv, that way people don't have to "buy blind" or go to fansubbers to test out a series.

I know what you mean, I was at a small local Anime festival on Saturday and at the "Anime Rant" panel we were asked what level we think our fandom will be at in 10 years. I said it's possable that I see my self dropping out altogether due to all the in-fighting.

Yes, for higher quality and what not. I think Shinji (the bastard who runs the site) also only lets an IP address watch so many videos per given time period. And anywhere you navigate on the site, this slime ball is begging you to upgrade to whatever account so he can get more money for disturbing illegal activity.

Crunchyroll isn't Napster. their quality is worse than Youtube, and most of the anime community hates them.

Can the fansubbers with content posted on crunchyroll not send DMCA takedown notices to crunchyroll? After all, the fansubbers own the copyright to the subtitles.
