No. Way.

No seriously, no way. This is, 1) too epic to be true, and 2) none of these EVER GET OFF THE GROUND, what's up with that?!
You mean like how that 3D live action Speed Racer movie never got off the ground?

I would say the chances of this getting made are probably better than most acquirements we hear about. Even if Steven Spielburg is indirectly involved, it's his company that's working on it. Hopefully they can take the lesson from Innocence and make this one a better film.

There is no way they can find an actress (Short of hiring a Porn Star) to play Motoko Kusanagi. No way in hell they could find some Celeb to be Motoko.

Right there is where the movie will bomb HARD!!!

Generally speaking, if you see the name "Steven Spielberg" anywhere in an upcoming movie, it's going to be made, and odds are it will turn out to be at least a decent movie. So don't worry yourselves too much about that. Spielberg is one of the world's most reknowned movie titans. This part was really encouraging to me:

Quote:
The entertainment trade newspaper quotes the acclaimed director and producer: "Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories. It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."

So if he's got a personal interest in seeing it made... well. Here's to hoping it turns out well. Very Happy

HOLY CRAP! Shocked FUND IT NOW!! Seems like Hollywood is really taking the liking to anime now a days. Speilburg takes it off the ground, so will a lot of popular series. Lets see how this works out.

I am happy and unsure about this news. I mean this is almost always brought up in 'what do you want to see made into a movie' threads. And if done right, this will indeed kick ass. But considering the complexity of the story, and the conscience that it tries to project, it would be very easy to lead this unknowingly down the wrong path. Plus there is always the PG-13 factor, and if they do make it 3D, I doubt that it will be an R movie.<---To clarify I am talking about violence and gore not nudity.

I never thought I would hear the day that they would decide to do this, so I am very excited.

That raises an interesting question, though; a lot of the character designs in the original GitS are different from what's in SAC. Which versions will the live action use?

If your talking about the movie and SAC, either one would be fine. Plus a lot of those differences won't seem so different once it transfers to live action, whereas they become very noticeable between the two anime.

On another note, maybe after this movie is made, and hopefully becomes a hit, it will garner in more paying consumers to the anime industry.

Forgive me if I'm being dense, but... how can it be 3-D and Live Action at the same time?

How about Kelly Hu?

Ummm live-action but with the use of CG wherever needed to make the scenes look real, like all sci-fi and fantasy live-action movies are going for these days.

Think of the movie SPy Kids 3-D. In order to be able to see it in 3-D they give you 3-D glasses for you to put on during the movie, and then everything will be in 3-D. Kind of like when I went to go see Beowulf in 3-D, we had to have the glasses, because if you don't put them on, the screen is blurry.

fukku: Other possibilities here and there, that was just one in mind that came to me.

Haha I see, though I guess this would mean that they are trying to make this movie much more action oriented and less mind inducing than Oshii's adaptations.

When they are filmed, but you don't get that 3-D prospective when you're watching the movie. 3-D in the movie theater puts you in as part of the movie when you're watching it, so you get the 'real' experience of the movie.

HahahHAHAHHH!!!! this is really funny. I doubt that this will be any successful, All live action anime will suck arse, Thus Anime's title will be ruined. I mean jeez come on, it's already bad enough that people have to make Dub's that sound like the anime characters are speaking basic english. It kills the whole damn thing. First it's Evagelion, then DBZ and now this?!
