Well, I have nothing against it.

So 16 Million dollars was wasted on something that might serve as a rather good conversation starter.

I mean, lets all realize that modern art is a lost cause. Let those silly people waste money on something of very little value.

Maybe I'm sick, but I find the idea rather amusing. I mean, a guy fapping a lasso? That's brilliant!

PS: I wouldn't pay more than 30$ for it, though ^^

Maybe I'm just niave or don't have an eye for art, but couldn't that fifteen million dollars be better spent on something else rather than an ejaculating man figure? Like perhaps a charity or the down payment on a yaht? I don't see any value appreciating on this thing in the near or even distant future, but maybe that's just me.

Then perhaps a figure of an ejaculating female? Anyways like I said before, the buyer might actually be a woman, so they like that stuff. No one would donate 15M to charity, so the yacht would be the smartest option u raised...
If I had 15M, I would use it to capture I bunch of ENDANGERED and exotic non poisonous animals, and then hire a master chef to cook it and let me eat it...and then broadcast it for the world to see!
I would like go to america, shoot down an endangered bald eagle. Then I will broadcast how I butcher the eagle, have my chef cook it. Then I'll let the world see me eat that precious endangered animal with a smile on my face(and eat it's eggs too). After that, I will wait for a bunch of angry mail from extremists, as well as those losers from greenpeace and animal rights groups...and when they do their protests at the front of my house, I would blast them witha fire hose...and broadcast that too! Now THATS how I would spend 15M

Back on topic though. We dont know how those millionaires really think. Because WE are not millionaires ourselves. Those human are very different from us, money gives thema lot of power to play with. Those are the people who buy fine arts. And to them, 15M to them is nothing but pocket money, to them 15M is just 15 dollars for us. If its a man buying that statue, well maybe he either swings the other way, or just bought it as a conversation piece...

FYI, sorry to burst your bubble, but Bald Eagles aren't endangered at all anymore (they were moved from "endangered" to "threatened" in 1992, and as of June 2007 were taken off the list entirely).
It's still illegal to kill one, though, I think... But only because it's the national bird.

Um, no. I checked out the link with the pictures of the statue, and...that's not the sort of thing I'd buy. If I wanted a figure, I'd get something more like this. A pretty boy. With clothes.

(edited to make it a little less redundant.)

now that I think about it a little more...maybe this statue is really a parody of Spiderman??
I mean...the lasso also looks like its made of web...theres no way semen can become that...well...rope like.

Have anyone thought that it was odd how spiderman shot web out of his WRIST?? Thats just unrealistic(well the idea of human spider is unrealistic already)...REAL spiders secretes their web from their abdomen...if converted to a human...it means spiderman should be shooting web from his butt(Parodied in an episode of FairlyOddparents I think)...or like in this statue...maybe he's shooting out web like how spiderman should...I mean he IS making a lasso...to capture the bad guys I guess...but I still wonder why did he make a male figure...

It's called having more money than sense. I hope Murakami has the sense to wait until the cheque clears, and money is in the bank, before he parts with his "masterbiece".

I don't see how you could interpret this work as anything other than a blistering attack on the ravages of western influence on Japanese culture: The western lasso, the blond hair, the boldness and obvious state of virility... Just saying in your face: "LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE MADE US BECUM"

this was only 5% serious post.

I think we are leaning a bit too far over the precipice now.

How does I shot web?

Cool....although I think it's a gross expenditure, whatever, it's controversial and if Murakami continues to be worth a lot as a name the piece will only increase in value. Nudes may be a little odd to have around the house but meh, I'm not sure I'd really care. Then again, that does feel like a stretch with the whole lasso of cum and all.[/quote]
