Not yet. Aparently they're going to release all 4 of the fist volumes of their titles in May.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the covers don't look bad to me.

>.< I grimance at the title design, especially on the tsubasa one. It looks like a superman title. The original title had a feather theme to it, http://www.jpqueen.com/onlineshop/productinfo.asp?PID=30891

Then of course I'm grumpy about the special hardcover release that we can't get here that had even cooler covers http://www.jpqueen.com/onlineshop/productinfo.asp?PID=30892

The XXXholic cover is somewhat close to the original, course they didn't have to do much since the title was in english to begin with: http://www.jpqueen.com/onlineshop/productinfo.asp?PID=30165 But why have the colors changed with glowing effects. That, and I highly doubt that the quality of these releases will be no where near the quality of the japanese version. XXXholic is one of the most gorgeous tankubon I have ever seen. The paper used in it is pure white, and seems to be ... I don't know what the word is for it, but it's really thick paper, and the cover is something to really appreciate IRL because the scans don't show it, but they have some kind of metal paint under it to make it shine, even though all the colors a really dark giving it a gothic theme. >.< There aren't bright colors on the cover.

But... yeah, I'm just a whinning CLAMP purist who's complaining over something she already has in Japanese. I just wish they could copy the Japanese version in the way Tokyopop did with Clover.

Well...I'm not as much of a CLAMP hardcore purist as you are, I guess...*lol* I think the covers/titles are fine. We'll just have to wait and see how Del Rey handles the presentation of the books; paper quality...etc.

What found interesting about this NEGI thing is:

Quote:
At the suggestion of one of our leading national book retailers, copies of NEGIMA will be shrinkwrapped with a label that states: "Contains Explicit Content, Ages 16+" on the front of the book

How cool is that?

I guess depending on how you look at it it can be both cool and extremely stupid at the same time. Personnaly, I think it's the dumbest idea ever. I mean you don't see Gunsmith Cats being shrinkwrapped or anyting and it has some very explicit nudity (especially in the later volumes).

We're good! Kudos to Del Ray for saying NO to edits.

I love love hina and the majority the work Akamatsu does but this one just sounds stupied to begin with; a 10 year old britsh wizard kid to teach english in a all girl high school? has to dorm with one of them? man Akamatsu has sunk to a new low i think what this looks like he is trying to ride off a bad remix of his love hina style now is this nudity love hina style nudity where you dont see anything but you know its there? guess its the compainys first try into manga, i could understand them worryed about tehnudity becouse the charactors them selfs are under the legal limit to be seen nakked but that hasn't stoped others like viz(ranma and friends are all underage) and others from doing this; but besides all this at lest they decided not to censor it witch even though its wrapped in plastic and would kinda make one feel like there buying porn(though i have no plans on buying it) but the overall thing is it wont be censored

I found this weird.

Maybe is just me, but...
Here we are seening a company that chose not to censored a manga, and yet all I see is this mixed reaction.

I think the reason for the mixed reactions is the entire shrink-wrapping idea. Certainly the only thing that needs to be shrink-wrapped is explicit sex (there are plenty of manga out there that have explicit nudity and obvious sex scenes (though nothing "below" is shown) that aren't edited or shrink-wrapped... take Paradise Kiss for example). The fact that Del Rey decided to shrink-wrap something that would also be labelled "Contains Explicit Content, Ages 16+", while Love Hina, for example, was 16+ from a different company without the warning or shrink-wrapping, seems sort of irritating.

What's more, because of the package, you can't even preview the first chapter or so of the book - it's either you buy it, risking a waste of $11, or you don't, risking missing a series you could potentially really like.

I don't really have a problem with them shrink-wrapping the manga. Yes, there is a bit of an off standard with the rating compared to that of Tokyopop or ADV, but until there is a unilaterally applied code of standards I doubt any two companiew will agree 100% on what constitutes what rating.

And I certainly don't have any issue with anything that makes anyone think twice about purchasing anything related to Ken Akamatsu.

I liked Love Hina. Sad It's my favorite manga, and not because of the fanservice. Anime hyper Is the nudity like in Love Hina with no nipples or does it have nipples? If it has them then it deserves shrink wrapping. But I kinda wish they'd release a cencored version AND a non cencored one so I could get it. Kinda like when they do with most explict content cds.

You are like, soooooo not helping your case. Laughing

I'm looking at this thread and thinking... huh? Censoring? I reserve the word "censor" for situations where there is a restriction on the freedom of speech or expression. Last time I looked, editing to reduce the amount of fanservice isn't restricting anyone's free speech or expression. What- you want to protest the reduction of fan service so the manga could be available to teenagers under the age of 16? Be my guest.

I wonder how many of you have actually read Magister Sensei Negi? I have, and the manga has too much gratuitous fan service. It's not needed. There is a good story lying underneath (it starts kicking off on volume 3 where Negi Springfield gets a lead about his father from a student in his class), but it doesn't need all the bath house scenes, Negi's sneezing fits and panty shots.

Don't get me wrong, I love Magister Sensei Negi ("What's Love Hina?"), but I find it amazing that people get het up because an editor is going to take your fan service away.

I wouldn't mind either way, but I was just meaning to defend Akamatsu's statement at the time. Of course he'd be upset, now just annoyed. Also fan service is not really a turn on for me. I find it amusing and hilarious given some scenes. yes it is gratuitous, but that is his style and I don't mind.

If you want an akamatsu story without such gratuitousness, watch Mao chan. I saw it all some time back, lots of fun and not as cheap as some reviewer may have put it as.

Then again, at the time i was also watching ghost in the shell TV: SAC. There's a way to watch anime ^^.
