LOLCATS is funny because it takes amusing or cute cat photos, imagines how an adorably cute kitty might say them, and combines the two. It requires a bit of imagination and it has evolved its own language.

Most internet memes, however, are the equivalent of a 6-year-old saying "poopy!", over and over, while all the other little idiots in the class repeat it and think it's hilarious.

Oh dear god. I think I'm going to go jump off a bridge now.

Memes in a nutshell. And sadly, Kevin's cool points are now in the negative zone.

I wonder if I'm the only person to learn about memes from a Dean Koontz novel. Anime smile + sweatdrop

Get out of my mind Richard!!!! Shocked

I simply find it funny that 4chan hates ANN with a passion but yet there are links to, or copies of, the majority of weekly columns here. They hate us so much yet make comments on most weekly columns or on threads here. That makes sense. I stand by the idea that they all just are scared to admit that they simply want a hug to feel better. Very Happy We should all go there and give them hugs to make them feel better heh.

Okay, now this is starting to get creepy. You first learned of memes from the same book? (Was it The Face? I think it was but I'm not sure.)

Me thinks they doth protest too much.

4chan secretly loves ANN: Tabloid rumor or thinly-veiled truth?

Someone wasn't hugged as a baby.

As for the comic, oy. Didn't cover forced memes.

This thread is about the comic strip; enough with the off-topic 4chan stuff.

I'm either thinking of The Face, which had the celebrity with the special son and the head of security named Ethan, or the Odd Thomas series starring Odd Thomas. I have all his books btw heh.

Personally I don't find anything regarding dead babies all that funny, then again what ever floats you boat.

Oh, meme.

I don't know if I'm talking about 4chan or just trying to be funny.

Apparently, the latter ain't working.

Wait, is that supposed to rhyme? Meme is pronounced "meem". That's definitely my favorite thing about the word, no one knows how to pronounce it. <3

Ironically enough, Crunchyroll uses Anime News Network's list of new anime titles for the season, yet I would think checking out ANN would be easier.

Although this is off topic, when Psycho101 said "Get out of my mind", I thought of that old song "Young Girl get out of my mind", ony of my older realitives used to listen to a station that only played old music and that song would often be played.

Odd how the decusion went from meme's to 4chan and back to meme's though.

So how many 'cosplayers' are going to show up at upcoming cons dressed as "COATERPLATYPUS"?

You've created a monster.

But it's more fun this way, Zac. Locks the thread up faster.

I think the nature of humor was discussed once on an episode of Tower of Druaga. And it was proved that relying on appearances or eye candy (eg. cute cat) is nothing more than an amateur pun. Real humor comes from exceeding the expectations of the audience, which is why comedy is such a difficult practice. Same thing goes with irony, especially since nobody knows what irony actually means.

All in all, good comic for pointing out the *for the love of God, kill me*-ness of internet culture.
