Both Coicent and Five Numbers showed up on Anime on Demand for free in the same month the DVD was released, which seems like such a stupid thing to do. They both come off as one-time viewings for most people so allowing people to watch them for free must kill some sales. The only other big reason to pick them up on Blu-Ray is for higher quality visuals, as the AoD streams were not HD.

And I have to admit, in the case of Coicent at least, the visuals are often impressive and would be augmented by a HD treatment... in fact I do know this. Before it was picked up I did watch this on a high quality fansub (when it was called Koi * Sento, a title I assume holds more meaning than its twice romanized translation- which doesn't seem to have any meaning) and I thought it looked amazing. I also really liked the story too and rewatching was a pleasure. It seems like this story would be great as a longer series, explaining all the weird things that go on, the roll of deer, the merely mentioned previous escapee (possibly Shinichi's mother?)... how the hell anyone would consider these hulking, monstrous, moving statues as charming?

Five Numbers
on the other hand seems like a second tier Twilight Zone story. It simply doesn't make sense. Why put this collection of non-violent offenders in the situation they are in? Why open up yourself for the slightest chance of the problem that is revealed at the end? I can see why the explanation was included- because it is needed. Maybe that's the reason to buy this on BD- to get the explanation they left off the AoD stream.

I'm pretty certain that it's Aunt Bitzi the recovering drug addict who is living with the Noharas, because Mitzi is Shin's mom. Though I haven't actually seen the second half of season 3 yet, so maybe it changed since then for some reason? But probably not.

You mentioned Rin and Kite in the same breath as Mardock, how black/perverse are we talkin' here? As someone who's seen both versions of Kite (and enjoyed the edited, non-porny version infinitely more; not a prude, it just made for a better flowing narrative and story without the gratuitous pandering) as well as Rin, what's the ballpark?

And Melanie from CA, I'd say you've got a very respectable beginning to your collection. Even the largest collector with the biggest collection started small, it's not about being able to drop fat cash at the drop of a hat.

The writer mentions he only had two weeks to come up with the story, so maybe that's why...

Auugh! Their names are one letter apart?! I do try very hard to get names right, but I don't always succeed. Maybe my batting average isn't too bad, if I'm talking about several characters per series, three titles per week for two years... but it's still embarrassing.

I probably could've been more specific... let's say all the disturbing sex so far in Mardock happened off screen. (Or maybe in an extremely brief, blurry flashback.)

It should be noted, that it is indeed going to be on BD, but due to releasing it in such close proximity of the JP BD release, it was stated in the PR that the BD would be released in 2012.

I disagree that you cannot marathon Shin-chan. That is the best way you can watch it, if that kind of humor is your kind of thing.

I watched a gorgeous movie in full HD on a huge screen. I was with my friends, and we were amazed by the beauty of that movie. Not only did it look freaking awesome, but the plot was great, the character interactions were stellar, the action was badass. And the voice acting? Holy crap, I missed hayashibara Megumi so goddamn much, and here she comes (electronically) voicing a wonderful character.

This movie was, obviously, Mardock Scramble - Part 1. It was nothing short of amazing, and I pity anyone who has not yet seen it.

Be warned... the wait for part 2 is going to be HELL.

I'm really interested in seeing Mardock Scramble: The First Compression after Theron Martin's uncommonly persuasive review, my considerable satisfaction with the manga and now the enthusiastic approval of Shelf Life. Invoking Kite certainly perks my interest up further. I had been waiting for a blu-ray edition, but it now seems likely that I won't be converting, so I might just leap upon it. I really like cyberpunk and noir, so anything that captures the feel of dark, sometimes bleak, sometimes lively, always interesting city streets has my attention. I am a little apprehensive about its sequels as I've read that the novel takes an odd turn into very different themes.

Coicentp and Five Numbers! are slightly interesting, but only enough that I would probably give them a chance if offered it for free.

I enjoyed Shin-chan when it aired on Adult Swim, but it just isn't something that I can imagine paying money to own. It just feels too disposable. A wonderful kind of disposable, mind you, but not something that would pay to have the ready ability to revisit.

Charming to see those nice beginner shelves. I hadn't even heard of Shonen Onmyouji anime (that I can recall) - is it any good?

IIRC, the Adult Swim Shin-chan put together different episodes parts, so the original narrative wouldn't work.

Your anime collection (minus the manga-which I don't read or collect) looks like mine 12 years ago.

I was going to say the same thing. When in 2012 is the question. I haven't seen any news updates relating to at which point in the year the BD version was going to be released. Hopefully sooner, rather than later considering the BD was released on August 24th in Japan.

I love Mardock Scramble. Watching the first trailer for The First Compression was enough for me to find out as much about it as I could, even to the point of pre-ordering the English omnibus version of the books. Reading the omnibus has only instilled a greater desire in me to see the movies. Considering the first movie covers the first book, I was quite surprised that it came in at only sixty minutes, though I suspect that may be due to the amount of action that takes place. The second book, The Second Combustion, nicely concludes the cliffhanger at the end of the first book/movie, and then does slow down a lot when it takes a turn in the casino, but then in there, a different battle is going on. Hopefully the Second Combustion movie is able to adequately portray this other battle and it's subtleties related to Rune's growth as a person. If the producers of the movies continue to follow the books as closely as they have, then The Third Exhaust should prove to be a satisfying conclusion.

Just wish the character designs and story in the manga version more closely resembled the movies/books. Sad
