You're right on the second part, but it's still significant for openly dealing with homosexuality in a non-shojo genre.

Uh, MW doesn't "deal" with homosexuality at all; if anything, Tezuka's portrayal of it (in that book) is rather silly and the opposite of progressive stance.

Hellkorn: Actually, I think it's kind of a subversive attack on "breeders", since the main character's a bigger bastard when he's straight than gay.
