That is so damn cute, I don't mind saying.

(BTW, ANN, spell check!)

I was expecting something typical like Astro Boy in some sort of action-ey pose, but this is a nice suprise!

His hair tapers to a point. Health and safety risk there.

I'd agree with you, but I really don't think anyone is actually stupid enough to touch the sharp point of Astro Boy's hair. Considering Japanese people probably have more sense than people in the US (at least I hope so).

I wonder if Tezuka is still alive to see this grand display of work?

His ANN profile says he died in 1989.

Sorry, I must have missed the part of the article where it said he died in 1989.

Still, this is quite impressive for even the "God of Manga" to have a statue build after a character of his. Doramon is the only other anime character that I know of that has a statue built after him.

Oh, I hope they release minis of it for commercial sale, my Tezuka fandom really wants one.

That is awesome. And really cool for them to honor Tezuka with the statue.

The robot from Laputa has a pretty cool 1:1 statue on the roof of the Ghibli museum.

Nice inscription, but they should really add "BOOM-DI-ADAH BOOM-DI-ADAH BOOM-DI-ADAH BOOM-DI-ADAH" to it.

Heck, the thing's made of concrete. Someone could run into it at full speed and really hurt themselves!
