The reason why there is a stigma, is because you made it out to be. Everyday I see and hear people getting bullied at school for their anime fandom. 98%, it's because they act like idiots and wear Naruto headbands to school. You're begging to get shoved in a locker with that.

No, you are begging to be shoved in a locker when, and only when you, clearly non-ironically say "please, I'm begging you, shove me in a locker." And even then, I wouldn't necessarily do it because I don't know if you actually want me to or if you just have low self esteem. Wearing a Naruto headband/wristband and saying "Believe it/Dattebayo!" is not an invitation to others to beat you up and give you a wedgie, I am sick of this tendency to blame somebody for being victimized that is everywhere.

What??!! No one is complaining because so many classic American comic heroes are being redone in Japanese settings (possibly)??!! I guess it's only bad if the U.S. does it to their stuff. Confused

I didn't like it to much ~_~. They should just stick to their style of anime, thats the only reason why I like japanese anime, If I wanted to watch american, superman, spiderman, I'd watch the american version.
Really see no point to this.

My guess is sample bias.

True but unfortunately some of those people are also TV and Film studio execs who are adamant that such things still exist (which they do) and will not appear on their channel, or screen, when what they really don't know is that it's not all like that.

Wow. That's... pretty much a total rip-off.

Any idea how long that suit was in the series? I was wondering if it was just a brief wink-and-nod or a case of 'no, this is his creation and a regular part of his armament.'

It was part of the brief Marvel Mangaverse thing they did. They basically took the Marvel characters and tried to re-imagine them through anime/manga tropes. Iron Man ended up with lots of homages to mecha series. I think he has a Mazinger Z style suit in the second Marvel Mangaverse series.

Wiki: Marvel Mangaverse has some more info and pics.

So yeah, that suit only appeared in the Marvel Mangaverse thing, which ran about.. four mini's I think..?[/url]

tell that to the bullies Rolling Eyes

As far as the actual topic goes I'm a little ambivalent. I'm not of the group that istantly thinks animation done by the Japanese is infinitely superior and is destined to be awesome. In fact, as far as I've seen, all the "reimagined" american cartoons the Japanese have done have been pretty abysmal, so I'm a little worried of what they might do (I had no idea they did a live action spidey show, and the fact they had him pilot a giant robot is facepalm worthy Confused). I guess we'll see. One question though, how do you make x-men shoujo?

The real question is if anyone actually gets wedgies or stuffed into lockers these days.

Anyway, I wonder how well Gotham Knight did in sales. I'm sure that anthology could've been an inspiration for these new projects...

I'm amped for this because all the marvel cartoons I can think of have been really good. This will be awesome if Madhouse just does the animation and everything else is handled by Marvel.

Wow, make one small comment about how nice it is to see one more instance of a moronic stereotype that was never true to begin with going away and someone launches into an attack.

I think I have an answer to your nomdeguerre Who Is This Guy!?; this guy is a troll and a jerk.

Considering I'm the guy at conventions (the few I've gone to, none were anime they were sci-fi) that people refer to as "clean cut," you're characterization of me couldn't me more off.

But please, don't let reality get in the way of insulting your fellow posters! Rolling Eyes

Getting to the topic at hand, an Iron Man anime sounds interesting but personally I'm a little tired of Wolverine. I like him as much as the next X-Men fan but he is a bit overused at this point. It's just part of Marvel's marketing though so what can you do but live with it.

One of these days I'm going to check out that shoujo X-Men. It just sounds so. . . odd.

Does anyone other than me remember the anime intros for the old 1992 X-men cartoon? That was some nice animation. Cool

I'm more than willing to check these out. With luck, this will get more people interested in anime in general and, God willing, further push away the "anime is Japanese violent porn toons" image that still haunts us to this day. (If nothing else, it'll bring Madhouse more money which is probably a good thing.)

You're pretty stupid for thinking there are people like that still around. Maybe only 3%... More like, it seems you're eager to prove something that doesn't need proving. In other words...Japanophillia.

Look. Geek culture is the new pop culture. And YES, anime is part of geek culture and more and more people are accepting it as an enjoyable entertainment medium. Unfortunately, there are plenty of uneducated rednecks and hicks out there. Being on this forum, obviously you are an anime fan like me. For us, of course we have no problem accepting Japanese culture. But Japanophillia DO exist. And that is something we can't ignore.......... just simply because we don't hang around with those circles of people (non- anime fans), it doesn't mean they don't exist.

Just look at all those asian movies Hollywood adaptation. Why do they have to choose a bunch of Westerners to re-act the same story again? They could have just show the original movies with subtitles on cinema. The reason being is there are still lots of people who have something against foreign culture...... or I should have say some sort of phobia against foreign culture.

Being a Chinese living in a Western culture domiant country, Australia, this issue seems very obvious to me. In Asian countries, we would show Hollywood movies with subtitles on cinema, and it would still become a box office hit. Unfortunately, this doesn't not apply to Western countries in a vice versa fashion. No matter how high-budgeted an Asian movie is, when it's shown in a Western countries, it would still be considered a foreign movie, an art house movie that would not appeal to general public.

Good news is globalisation is slowly happening everywhere around the world. Hopefully, one day we can all have a high level of acceptance towards other cultures. Before that happen, yes, Japanophillia DO still exist.
