Just noticed this one Yahoo! news. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=7&u=/ap/20040514/ap_on_re_as/japan_scolded_lawmakers_2. I don't blame them for reading Mangas it can get very boring in Parliament ^^, adult themes would be what exactly? Pornographic? Well that sure would make the day interesting but you wouldnt really want to be caught by the Prime Minister of Japan reading it. Laughing

Quote:
TOKYO - Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi scolded rookie lawmakers Thursday for reading comic books and talking on their cell phones during legislative sessions, according to a newspaper report.

The national Asahi newspaper said Koizumi scolded 30 first-term lawmakers from his Liberal Democratic Party during a luncheon.

"Don't send e-mail on your cell phones or read comic books in Parliament while in session," Koizumi was quoted as saying.

"You can be seen very clearly from the prime minister's seat. You should really stop that — it's disgraceful."

Koizumi's office said he hosted a luncheon Thursday, but it could not immediately confirm his comments.

Comic books, often with adult themes, are common reading material for middle-aged men. Japan's younger generation also is hooked on using cell phones to send e-mail.

The country's youngest lawmakers sit in the front of Parliament, while their elders sit in the back of the chamber.

Could be worse....they could be sleeping.

Nothing spells "democratic" when you see your representive slumped over their desk, drooling on a resolution over giving VOOMERS Fundamental Human Rights.

They've already got a masked wrestler in an Assembly seat, what more could they want?

You mean, more people like Koizumi?
Or more people like the slacker politicians?

We've got enough "corruption" in government as it is. I certainly hope we don't add "apathy" to the deal as well. :p

Wow. After seeing the masker wrestler, Having Arnold win California doesn't sound so bad. Neither does the U.S. government's 47 trillion debt *not including intrest*. lol

Eh... I'd still rather they spice up politics in Japan. They haven't really been up to much at all lately other then sending a small number of their Military to Iraq. It's almost like they took what the British do, and then make it even more boring.

However, The reason It's so boring is probably due to such respect they must have for each other that everything must be so formal.

The British House of Commons, boring? Compared with Congress, the British Parliament is pretty lively, with catcalls (perfected over the past few centuries) having risen to an art form Razz

Ah, there's been plenty of chaos in Congress before. You might find this entertaining.

Something like that. He said that rapists are somehow good because it shows they're sexually active and healthy. While the first part is true, the second isn't, and in either case it's one of the stupidest things you could EVER say.

It amazes me sometimes what will come out of a politicians mouth... this makes some of the misquotes by our presidents, etc. seem like inteligent banter when compared to that rape comment.
