I don't care what you say about Golion. I've always wondered what those @#$% censors took out of it when it became Voltron. Now thanks to Media Blasters, I can finally find out. Razz

I'm not really seeing why it's so amazing that his wife accepts the fact that he collects anime and figures. I mean, the naked little girls are a bit much, but otherwise, what's the big deal? I guess I've never understood why some people blow a gasket when their spouse has a collection that they love.
And as a figure collector, I like them because they're adorable (I mainly collect girls. Girls and Evangelions) and they really do spruce up a shelf. And like some of the others have said, it's a way to show your fandom. Also, I'm a huge dork for Asuka Langley Soryu, so it's always exciting when I find figures of her at the comic store. Most things I'll think about before buying, but Asuka is an instant buy.
I think the only figure that I really wanted that I had to pass up though was the Hare Krishna zombie from Dawn of the Dead. I know full well I wouldn't be able to sleep with him looking at me *shudder*

Hmm....As for One Piece its my favorite show out of all of them. If I came down to me buying the CP9 arc of One Piece only and getting the whole naruto collection for free i'd go with One Piece.

It took a long time for me to get into Naruto. I didn't enjoy it until the Chunnin Exams. before that it was a chore. DBZ is always a chore. The characters for me didn't really have an depth besides the 'I'm a Sayain you're a Sayain lets get stronger you killed Krillan AHHHH!!!
I can watched the series but i didn't enjoy it until Cell showed up.

I think if you're watching a long running Shonen series be prepared to watch a lot of episodes before it gets interesting. Shows that have a long plot or a goal, becoming Hokage or finding the One Piece and take years to accomplish take a long number of episodes. What was Goku trying to do at the beginning of the series? Keep his hair gelled up?

It's amazing to me how people can watch DBZ but hate One Piece because of the story. I'm not saying it wrong to hate OP but its 10 episodes fights and five leading up to them too.

You are right it is completely pointless they just sit there. But I like the way they look on my shelf. It's just another way for me to show I am a fan of a series/character. I mean knickknacks are pretty pointless too but people collect those also. I guess it is the same sort of thing. Hey I buy DVDs of a series I like and most of those I've only watched once. Some people would argue that was pointless too.

I'm a guy and I don't collect the scantily clad female ones either. I just don't find cartoons or little statues appealing in that way, so I go for the more artistic ones. I have a Lain and Rakka (Haibane Renmei) figure, and a Eureka figure, who does have her usual short dress, so that could be considered somewhat more fanservice oriented.

You're right about figures, and I have other collectibles that are equally worthless, aside from showing the things I'm a fan of what I love, as well as serving as aesthetic filler. It's really up to the individual in whether it's worth it or not. The benefits are negligible, but for some, those small benefits are all the reason they need to purchase figures or collectibles. They just sit there, yes, but they are generally aesthetically pleasing, and showcase to people a bit about you as a person.

I have a decent sized collection of figures but I don't really have any of the suggestive kind. Well, I guess there are a couple that are somewhat suggestive. Still, they're tame enough that I don't mind them. For me though, it's not that I dislike fanservice. I enjoy looking at scantily clad girls, anime or otherwise. It just seems a bit tasteless to me to go and decorate with that kind of thing. I like the figures I have because they look cool. They're a decorative item. I don't feel the need to decorate with borderline pornography. If I want to look at that stuff some time maybe I will. I don't really need it sitting all over my shelves in constant view though.

I have to admit, at first I couldn't find Bebop on those shelves either. I guess the... um, exposure an inch away was too distracting, maybe?

As for OP, even though my only exposure to it was the 4Crap version, I never could get past the way over the top cartoon-like character designs. To each his/her own...

I agree (guy here as well). Granted, with the female figures in school outfits (Rukia from Bleach and Yuki from Haruhi), their underwear can be seen by looking up their skirts, but that's not really visible when placed on my shelf, so no biggie. Then you have figures like various Rei and Askua figures whose clothing may not exactly be modest, but it's nothing you couldn't wear in public without raising protest. But a big no-no to anything like visible panties, removable clothing, or realistic breasts (I seriously couldn't believe that when I first heard). Heck, I'm even hesitant about getting the Yoko (Gurren Lagann) figure, just because she shows so much (note: make a Simon figure, and I'll get her, because it seems wrong to own Kamina and her but not the main character!)

But yeah, I wouldn't like decorating my room with stuff like that. I also live with my parents and little sister, so that MIGHT also have something to do with it. Wink

I don't think I'd really have a problem if my s.o. felt the need to collect scantily-clad female figurines. They're just toys. I have a lot of figures too, and some of them include panty-flashing girls-- just because I thought the figures would cute.

Now, I'm not married, but I'm pretty sure I'd be okay with my husband having a huge collection of nsfw figurines. I'd much rather that, than him going to strip clubs all the time, or worse, seeing other women on the side. Figures are just figures; they're harmless.

It depends on where's your head at. I've read of Walmarts being forced to cover nude lawn statues. I don't see myself as the type to want a nude boy statue peeing in my fountain, but others do & it's really insane for people to get worked up over stuff like that.
Are these figures art?
Maybe.
I sure enjoy looking at my Saints although yes, they're pretty covered. I've seen my share of half-naked DBZ fighters. Am I a pervert if I display shonen title figure guys without shirts? This site discussed a One Piece figure (Frankie) that was a bit more detailed than one would expect thru his pants. Would that figure be pornographic?

I don't believe I called anyone a pervert. In fact, I even said I enjoyed looking at certain scantily clad individuals myself. I'm not judging anybody for their interest in that kind of thing. So please don't put words in my mouth in order to support your arguments. I'm also not crazy about how you're making a connection between what I said and some silly people demanding things be censored. I'm clearly not trying to force my views on anyone. I'm just stating what I think.

Quite the nice collection of Anime and Models.

As far as the SO goes, he may have one of those enlightened ones who has the philosophy of ' I don't care how you get your appetite, just as long as you always come home for dinner' (lunch and breakfast too..Smile Snacking is bad for your health Smile

If I put one of those figurines on my shelf, her indoors would give me weird looks, with some snarky comment about me being some kind of a perv, and my teenagers would give me wide birth.

They're harmless............................ until they become some sort of ideals that you could never strive to be! Laughing

Everyone in the 'hood played all these as kids (so there is a lot of nostalgia factor), but I liked Voltes V more than Voltron (either version), so there! Razz

They'd be embarrassed to bring their friends over, even if they're anime fans! Laughing

Anyways, displaying pervy anime figurines is just like putting up bikini posters on your walls or lockers. Guys do it all the time! Wink

Putting up a "naughty" picture in one's locker where only one, and perhaps a few others of ones peers would see it, is slightly different to having a display like that where all and sundry visiting the house could see it. Especialy if one is in his 50's married with a wife who thinks watching cartoons at that age is senile, and impressionable, but cautious, teenage children. I could say it's theirs, but they would vehemently deny it, and no one would believe me anyway. It's one reason I have to keep my collection, that does not include any figures, or dolls of any description, behind a closed cabinet with a lock. However if I was an impressionable, but non-cautious teenage boy with no hope of ever having a girlfriend, I guess a display like that couldn't hurt one's street cred with one's coleagues of the same ilk. Wink

Ha old man! I'd daresay guys with bikini posters on their walls actually get more action from the girls! Razz

(Probably because they make no pretense of what they want, so girls don't need to pretend.)
