You can add my name to the list of folks who will be buying Clannad.
Like so many others, I will likely wait until it is fully released before buying them all to ensure that I can acquire the complete series. This practice of waiting on series releases is not something I do solely on one company, but all of them with very few exceptions. Currently I'm collecting only one title as an "on release" basis: Lucky Star LE's. All the rest, it's often a long wait. (An example, I'll finally be getting both seasons of Black Lagoon this week, as they just shipped last Friday.)

I'm also glad to see Mahoromatic will see some more life. I won't be buying it as I already own the original boxset of the series, but i do know a fair number of people who want to buy it, so i think it will do well for ADV.

I do hope that ADV not only recovers, but also continues to move forward and stay strong in the industry.

Now if only someone would rescue Tsukikage Ran, I'd be set for a while.

Did I miss something with this, did they stop distributing this for some reason? I know Bandai had some consolidation going on, but I wasn't aware they ceased production on any of their older titles. I already own the release, so I haven't tried looking for it as of late, so thats why I ask.

I saw it right here. Which disappointed me since I had only just heard of it for the first time when I saw the preview on my Please Teacher (Anime Legends) Complete Collection that I just got last month.

@LuckySeven

Ahh, didn't know they had ceased production/distribution.
Guess I got lucky, since I bought mine last year and it was still fairly available from both RACS and RightStuff at the time.

I'm a bit surprised that ADV is releasing Clannad in singles. They need to catch up with the other dubbing companies & start releasing box-sets from the get-go.

I'm kind of hoping someone will bring back Fushigi Yugi, so I can finally get it, and cheap.

RightStuf had a sale a few weeks back where they were selling the Fushigi Yugi singles for $5 each. Finally allowed me to collect the whole series at an affordable price. ^^ Still need the OVAs though, but god did that first one suck.

I managed to snag the OVA for $25 in Dec/06 from a Right Stuff Weekly Special. The extras alone make it worth that.
Geneon did drop the price on Fushigi Yugi to something like $20 or $25 list per dvd, so the sale price would have been around $12-$15 per dvd meaning one could have had each set for under $60 which was a bargain compared to the $200 Geneon had been asking for so long. Those dvds did get included in the $5 sales so you could have had each set for $20.
How much cheaper can you (reasonably) ask for a season of anime?

I always try not to but then I get so excited about that might-be and end up disappointed. Embarassed

I figure it's likely to be put out by someone at some point but as you go down the list of R1 distributors from Funimation down, the chances of an English dub diminish. (Ah, the curse of the English dub fan who is also a niche fan.)

My tastes are pretty broad (I think) so I like a lot of stuff and it's easy to be disappointed with things if they aren't being handled by the Texas Overlords at Funi. I like the way ADV does their actual production but I don't agree with any business model that drops dubbing. Especially since it seems like there are a lot of other factors that are causing more problems.

When the Clannad singles come out, I'll buy them as they come. I really enjoyed ADV's work on AIR and Kanon so I'll take my chances and go for it. Hell, I'd buy it at this point just to spite those who are against the show. The more someone campaigns against something in way that I think is unfair, the more I support it. (I did the same way back with the Battle Club manga. Turned out okay since it was a mindless fanservice action fest with Yuri and wacky stupidity.)

I'm very excited for Clannad. It will be the first Key US release that will actually be a complete surprise for me as it comes out (watched Air fansubbed and had watched the original Kanon tv before the current series release). I too would like to hear more new licenses. Tsukihme is a good rescue though, I enjoyed it alot although I am probably not going to double dip.

Where does Yotsuba& Vol. 6 come into all of this?
That's what the people want to know.

I think with ADV getting everything in order, we'll probably hear something about Yotsuba&! soon.

I certainly hope we do at least.

You and me both.

While we're at it, I'd also like to see Girls Bravo, Last Exile, Bastard!!, Gankutsuou, DearS, Fighting Spirit, Kannazuki No Miko, Texhnolyze, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, L/R: Licensed by Royalty, El Hazard, Paranoia Agent, Hanaukyo Maid Team, and Chobits get rescued (And why haven't they been rescued yet?). If not by ADV or FUNi, then someone else better snatch those up. Ditto Mad Bull 34, Angel Cop, the Guyver OVA, Gungrave, and GUNxSWORD.

Personally, I was hoping they'd announce a partnership with Kadokawa USA for releasing their series.

Wouldn't the Newtype USA fiasco be a problem? I could see that getting in the way of future business, but you never know.

Clannad is great news, but seeing as I have no faith, I'm not going to risk purchasing singles in case ADV realises "whoops, Harem doesn't sell this way" and Clannad dies a sad death after 3 DVDs.

But...PET SHOP OF HORRORS! YES.

And I've been eagerly awaiting more Yotsubato, they need to get on that snappy-like.

Was this announcement with Sentai Filmworks their big "new partner" reveal, or are we still waiting for that?

Pretty much, yes. This is the partner they were talking about at Otakon.

However from the sound of it, there are other partners they will be making announcements about in the near future.

Speaking of that, there's a strong possibly that the next partner could be "Pony Canyon".

I have to say that this was rather unexpected. With their acquisition of both Mahoromatic series, it looks like ADV Films is getting back to its roots (T & A) after all. Wink

Still, I want them to rescue Tenshi Ni Narumon (I'm Gonna Be An Angel!). When it comes to handling manic comedies, they're the best. Also, three volumes of an incomplete series won't do it for me... Sad
