Also, I know Geass R2 hating is "in" kids, but R2 was probably the best or second best show last season in Japan, next to perhaps Macross F. And it had a great ending. And awesome mechs. And Kallenpunch. Complaining won't make Taniguchi redirect another series where he redoes the plot of the sequel.

Remember, (if you at all follow Japanese anime news...you should have no excuse being on ANN) R2 originally had its plot redone and revised because the timeslot was screwed up IN JAPAN. And it still turned out to be a fine show. Be thankful for that at least.

If that's true, it justifies them starting Moribito over again. I guess they're giving it a second chance at a decent time slot, so they might as well go back to the beginning for it. I'm just glad they're repeating Geass, because my DVR didn't record it fully because of the time change.

I guess it does justify it very slightly. But I just hope Moribito airs before Code Geass... I'm no stranger to staying up late, but if they air Moribito after Geass, well that'd be pushing it.

That is actually quite a good list of Anime. But why oh why are most of them A: really "old", and B: on after something like The Boondocks? It does not compute.

You'd rather have Aqua Teen Hunger Force be the lead in?

Boondocks has a visual style influenced by anime and manga (but then again, what is it) can be over the top, and is genuinely funny at times. I see no reason for it not to be on the schedule quality-wise, and I'm sure it gets eyeballs, too.

I'm more impressed that it's not the typical half-schedule they've historically done.

Sigh.

R2 hating is "in" because R2 itself was bad.

In fact, it was atrocious.

It wasn't just lame compared to the awesome first season. Objectively speaking, R2 ended up becoming little more than a pile of garbage.

So you see, sometimes the fandom actually gets it right, attacking a show because the show actually deserves to get the what-for. Funny that.

Season 1 wasn't "awesome" in any objective sense whatsoever. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed the hell out of it, but in terms of storyline progression and character development, it was somewhat of a mess. If the second season provides more of the same, I'll be more than satisfied.

Top secret conversation from the AS offices "Hey I have an idea, let's get rid of all this ANIMUU and top off our line-up with more Family Guy re-runs, American Dad re-runs (and hour each!), and bring back the best show ever, Super Milk Chan!"

Y'know, if they could, they probably would! Laughing

But alas, not enough eps to fill too many timeslots. Those reruns get higher ratings than anime premieres. Well, not Super Milk-chan, at least. Wink

who would watch it at 2AM?

The people who watched it at 5am! Laughing

Yet another "con" about the pre-midnight timeslots. Laughing

Such as myself. Oh the irony.

Unless CN gets a piece of those revenues (well, maybe the DVD sales), then those still wouldn't be enough. Razz

As far as Moribito goes, I read or heard somewhere that it was originally slated to go on Toonami. I forgot the details of why, but it got bumped over to Adult Swim. I'm not saying its true, but Moribito doesn't really seem like Adult Swim material in my opinion.

Neither is it fast-paced enough for Toonami.

Look, you're entitled to your opinion, but know that an opinion is subjective by definition. So no, it was not "objectively" bad. Furthermore, I could understand you being disappointed at the sequel, but if you honestly think R2 was "a pile of garbage", I'm thinking you must not watch a lot of anime. Very Happy

Looks like i'm going Club Hopping/Weekend Leather Crafting classes. Still not airing at the times that I want.

God, how many bloody times do we need to see Peter (insert random thing here) or Lois (flashback sequence here here) or Stewie doing the 9,000th attempt to kill Lois?

Man I love anime "fans" nowadays Rolling Eyes

they can't seem to just enjoy the shows they watch; even the usually reasonable crowd around here seem to be giving in and becoming part of the internet hate machine.

well that reminds me why I don't come here anymore.

And yet, here you are......

Is it wrong to hate something that failed to meet reasonable expectations? That tarnished a good name with the stains of blatant commercialism, writing so lazy it barely has a heartbeat, and a cast whose average IQ is approximately 76?

There is a popular misconception that a huge "Internet Hate Machine" is diligently trying to bring R2 down. If anything, the mass movement on the Internet consists of too-easily-pleased fans glorifying R2. How else to explain 824 people giving it a "Masterpiece" rating in the Encyclopedia?

By the negative reaction to the first episode on the Code Geass' Adult Swim thread, I have surmised that the real problem in today's fandom is fansub watchers treating mediocre (or worse) productions as if they were the cat's pyjamas.

After all, they are likely drawn to a show based on its genre. So already you have fans who are pre-disposed to put up with whatever crap the Anime dishes out. They are watching not for the plot or characters, but (in the case of Mecha) big robots slugging it out.

It just seems like the standards of a huge group of fans is, "We got it for free, and it panders to our personal tastes. Therefore as long as we are able to bear watching it, we'll give it a high ranking. Yeah, like that attitude is going to get us better Anime.

Um... Maybe there are 824 people out there who genuinely think it's good? Nah, couldn't be that.

"Good" good maybe, but Masterpiece good?

To paraphrase you, "If you honestly think R2 was 'a Masterpiece', I'm thinking you must not watch a lot of anime."

Well, either that or fans are hitting Masterpiece for something they only mildly enjoyed.

Good job. Wink

Look, I know that you hate R2, but is it really so unthinkable to you that other people could genuinely appreciate it for more than just the mecha/fanservice/whatever? I personally loved it for its startling plot twists, drama and deviation from the standard brainless formulae so many other anime fall prey to (among other things). And if you look at my anime watch list, you'll note that I don't give out Masterpiece ratings that easily myself (I don't put a lot of effort into my comments, though).

Oh yes, and please don't turn this into a fight between fansubs. That isn't going to accomplish anything.

I was actually disappointed by Code Geass R2, there is no way around it...but not to the point of utter hatred. Clearly worse than season one? Of course. Flawed? Certainly. Entirely worthless in every regard? Not in my opinion.

If you ask me, I think that a good number of complaints about the quality of the show are absolutely justified, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for debate, one way or another, about specific issues and concerns.
