HMM..Since i loved the South Park movie,Sounds promising.hopefully this may make up for their previous flops Orgazmo and Baseketball.

I'm curious to know what kind of reception Resident Evil Apocalypse would get once i reaches Japan. (The said sequel looks much better than the first. hopefully it'll do Shinji Mikami proud, and RE fans like myself of course.)

I kinda liked the first Resident Evil movie, really. As far as movies based on video games, it had enough good in it to make it not as bad as, say, every other movie based on a video game ever made. The sequel looks alright, although whoever decided to actually dress Jill in that godawful sky blue tube top and miniskirt number needs to realize that this was video game fashion design from 1998 and maybe - perhaps - some "nods" to the game's fans should be left out.

soul_taker: Orgazmo "flopped", because it was unfairly slapped with an NC 17.

Zac: Nemesis looks more lame IMHO.

You misspelled Fahrenheit 911 (it's not Farenheight 911).
I can't believe that it went from #18 to #2 in one week (it must've opened in limited release). Still it's a great movie. I really hope that Steamboy ends up earning a lot more money.

I was a little surprised to see Fahrenheit 911 is doing so well in Japan. I didn't know Bush hating was so popular over there. I wonder if they get their own voice over in Japanese or if they are stuck with Moore's whiny voice like we are.

Bush is pretty much hated around the world. Of course, the people that hate him the most are at home, after all, they are most affected by his policies and decisions.

In the rest of the wold, more people (almost everyone) dislike him, but not as much.

Well, Innocence wasn't expected to do that well in Japan, but I wonder how they (the people involved in its production, financing and release) feel about Steamboy's box office take. Do they consider it a failure, or were they expecting those kinds of numbers?

Well, I guess they were counting on it being a hit on DVD in the US/UN like many anime movies are (thats the only reason Innocence was able to get made), but they might have expected it to do a bit better. After all, I believe Akira grossed about $50 Million (which is a massive hit in Japan).

Actually, I heard Akira was a flop too, and that Otomo's only hit in Japan is Memories.

I believe I read that in Anime Insider, but I could be wrong. But I really couldn't see Akira flopping and Memories being a hit. After all in the 80's the Akira manga was HUGE in Japan. And I think they would have a difficult time importing Akira to the US, where anime was almost nonexistant except for some TV shows, if it was a flop.

Nah, there's no way they fronted 20 million for production and then however much for publicity and expected those numbers. They won't even see about half of that 8 million, which will go to the theaters. They've taken a huge hit on this.

I'm really confused with Japan's love-hate relationship with Otomo's movies. They absolutely love his manga, but his only (somewhat) successful movie so far is one where he only directed 1/3 of it.

I guess I can sit and pray that Steamboy somehow manages to recoup its losses through overseas DVD sales, but I doubt it. Mainstream Hollywood films are lucky to make 20 million in DVD sales, much less anime.

I'm also kinda interested to see what pithy amount MindGame is making out with.

I guess so. :/

When I say it at the Super Bowl promo, it was 'Van Hellsing', thinking it was the live action version of Hellsing. Now I know that Van Helling is suppose to be a girl.... >>;

Reading the summary for Nobody Knows, I want to go see it now! I hope it comes to America theaters!!!
