My condolenses to the Blaustein family on their loss. I really enjoyed Maddie's portrayal of Meowth; she played the troublesome Pokemon with a lot of flair and passion. She will be greatly missed.

Wait. Is this person a girl or a guy? They said this person does Yugi's grandfather from Yu-Gi-Oh! and that's kinda strange.
I told my dad about this and he's bummed about it. Her Meowth was cool. I feel bad she/he died. |

The person that started the thread about Blaustein's passing on the AoD forum mentioned that Blaustein was a transgender. EDIT: Yuki_Kun beat me to it . Last edited by bci110 on Tue Dec 16, 2008 8:48 pm; edited 2 times in total |

she was a male to female transsexual. maddie so sad! the cause was evidently a stomach virus or something of the sort - the family decided against an autopsy, so the real reason isn't ever going to be known. she died in her sleep though, apparently with no pain, so there's that at least. rip. |

That's horrible...She was a wonderful actress. I never knew she was grandpa. I hope she rests in peace.

I'm in shock. She was so awesome as Meowth, and while I never watched Yugioh religously, I did like Grandpa...

wow...sad..just yesterday i made my first "meowth! that's right!" joke in 5 years...That line will always be in my memory with her voice. Did great in Valkyrie Profile and in the few anime I heard her in.

The original Pokemon seasons still manage to produce feelings of warm and fuzzy nostalgia in me, and obnoxious little Meowth's puns were a big part of it. Thanks for all of the memories, Maddie.

It strikes me that Meowth's voice is so distinctive that it's probably one of the most recognizable cartoon voices (anime or western) for an entire generation. The late-90's Pokemon craze has ensured that today, if you yell "MEOWTH! That's right!" in a college dorm, everyone will instantly get the reference.
Maddie Blaustein made a mark on our pop culture in a way few dub actors ever get the chance to. May God rest her. |

Oh my goodness!
She will be missed, Team Rocket and Meowth were what made Pokemon the only watchable thing to come out of 4Kids, and I'm sorry to hear she passed on! (I really liked Meowth...a lot of people hated him, but I liked him.) |

Hot damn, all these years and I had no idea that was a woman playing Meowth.
That certainly is a loss. |

1) Death is sad regardless of voice acting credits- there's no "I guess" involved. 2) Just becuase her biggest roles weren't in some hardcore fan favorite doesn't make them unsubstantial. There's a whole generation out there that grew up listening to her Meowth. That contribution will be remembered long after people forget who played the main characters of Guren Lagann or Haruhi. And I will miss her- Team Rocket will never be the same. |
