Personal favorite soundtrack: Mahou Tsukai Tai but that's mainly because I'm a sucker for strings.

But the best soundtrack, c'mon that shouldn't even be a question, how can you NOT give it to Princess Tutu, I mean, to be fair the music wasn't composed just FOR the anime, but seriously, lots of great "proven" music in there.

If you want something with an "original" score, then I have to give it to "Rurouni Kenshin", several great OPs & EDs and some incredible BGM that I've listened to over and over.

I've noticed a lot of complaining about "extensive vocabulary" in the review section too. I'm pretty sick of it.

I deal with this situation a lot - everything from constant teasing by my siblings to actual harrassment by patrons of our library - because people think I'm trying to outclass them with my choice of words.

Perhaps I should have put my intro in sarcasm tags; it was intended as such.

The irony of this is that Blu Ray has plenty of porn, but NOBODY wants to see it!

I thought blocking porn was one of the arguments against BD. In fact, that was one of the reasons the industry picked HD-DVD.

But that's because there isn't much of a price difference between BD and DVD there, since anime in Japan is already too expensive.

The real reason BD isn't picking up is because of what I said earlier: It was forced on the public. Consumers actually had a choice between DVD and DIVX, but the studios chose for them in this format "war". We'd have had different results, if all the studios released movies on both players, instead of a majority of them putting out the bulk of their titles on BD-as was the case this last year.

Anyway, I think ANN should have an AnimeOnBD poll soon.

I don't know where you got that, but neither group blocked the porn industry, and the porn industry got behind BluRay early on.

Do a google search for Blu Ray porn and you'll find a ton of it for sale. The industry reports it doing quite well, and they're experimenting with the forthcoming 3D technology as well.

Going by CD Japan, the old stand-alone DVD for Honneamise still costs the same as the Blu-ray and HD DVD combo sets. You'd think they'd want to clear old stock by marking them down.

jsevakis: You sure about that?

Edit: Well, actually, after looking a little longer, we're both right. Porn companies did originally choose BD, until Sony reneged on its agreement.

Sheila's take on Anime Vegas. Truth is, most fan panels are like that. And just know it's not picking on anime fans. I've been to dozens of fiction author panels and other conventions, and no matter how much it's supposed to be, say, focused on writing for writers, either readers take over and ask the same 10 questions, or newbie writers ask the same 10 questions. You have to be patient. It was a lot of those fans' first convention too, or the first time they were meeting thir most favorite VA and they stood up and asked their questions, including wanting to hear the VA in that notable role (been there, squealed at that). I say if you want an "intelligent" question asked at a panel, ask it yourself.

Brian, welcome to Answerman! The info about BlueRay discs in Japan and the US having the same region code made me sit up a bit. I mean, fast forward five, seven years. More folks ahve palyers, costs maybe will have come down. Wouldn't this not only tempt japanese fns to buy US DVDs because they're cheaper, but tempt US fans to buy Japanese rlesease becaue they're newer? In raw Japanese granted, but I can think of a lot of fans who'd happily buy it raw and at yen prices to get their hands on the latest show --legally -- sooner than much later. Do you think this will further push the compnaies on both sides of the ocean to find faster ways to license and distribute anime titles? Would they (could they) even try to get the coding changed?

I'm planning on buying a Blu-Ray player at some point next year, whenever I see a low-end player for around $150 Canadian at Wal-Mart, but, even when I get it, while I'm holding off buying most new Hollywood movies that I like until I have Blu-Ray, I'm still buying anime on DVD and I've pretty much resigned myself to buying anime on the DVD format for the foreseeable future. I'm a physical media fan who has no interest in digital downloads (I don't even have an iPod) and if DVD remains the primary physical media option for anime, that'll be the format I'll have to buy it on.

For soundtracks, I'd generally still choose Kimagure Orange Road, but that's because I grew up in the 1980's and the songs remind me very much of English-language pop music circa 1982, especially the vaguely Eurhythmic-ky "Kanashii Heart wa Moete-iru wa".

For BGM, there is no shame in admitting that I love Sailor Moon, for whimsical woodwinds and heart-tugging strings, plus the original "Moon Prism Power Make-Up" music sounds somewhat like the A-Team theme.

Great song. "Daitte, daitte, daitte FIRE LOVE"!

For KOR though, my fav still has to be Natsu no MIRAGE, the first ending theme. Even though I have absolutely nothing like that in my personal history, it still makes me a bit weepy nostalgic for love in the summer of youth.

Tenchi: I pretty much agree with you, which is why I wish Toupee would also just put out shows like Slam Dunk and Harlock in R1 box-sets already-with the help of competent DVD people this time, of course.

you have to be way too silly to put away your bag of goodies away from you and get it stolen... I scored hundred of "Lost bags" on conventions because of this, keep it in between your legs when you take a picture and thats it, I still remember that digital camera that I found and formatted with 300 pictures of some guys prom....

also, conventions are events where you wander alone, you may gather with some pals for a few panels and stuff but the last girl with the kiki dress, you can see she was way to clingy to her group, you can't diss man-faye..he's an icon!!!

Here's someone else for the Kimagure Orange Road soundtrack. I love that 80s pop sound it has. My favorite song is easily Kanashii Heart wa Moete-iru wa. The other OP/EDs are great to, though. Some great BGM also. The Loving Heart and Sound Color 2 soundtracks were some of the best purchases I've ever made. Now I just need to get me some money to at least get the other Sound Color soundtracks.

Absolutely adorable hamster.

Those horror stories are the reason I don't go to anime-cons. A couple of people have tried to get me to go and do a Naruto cosplay. Glad I didn't. For starters, I don't even like Naruto. I do enjoy going to comic-cons though. Most of the people there are relatively friendly and reasonable. Or at least thats been my experience. Whatever Holiday you celebrate, may it be a happy one. God Bless!

As I understand it, the advantage of BluRay is that the wavelength of a "blue" laser can handle far more data than the standard (red?) ones already in use. This could be used either to convey much higher definition of the same number of episodes, or to store more episodes of the same definition on one disc. It seems to me that the later option would be infinitely preferable. I have never once said to myself "the definition of this show is so bad that I'd be willing to purchase a whole new entertainment system in order to watch it"! In fact, often times I download HD fansubs and convert them to ordinary quality ones just so that I can watch them on a DVD player instead of my computer. The most important feature of my DVD player isn't the resolution it's capable of (the maximum is 720 pixels horizontally), but rather that it is MPEG4 capable, so that I can play the Data Discs which I burn myself. The only way I can concieve of converting to BluRay would be if my DVD player broke down, and BluRay players with the same ability for about the same cost were available. It would also have to be DVD capable, since there's no way I'd purchase BluRay replacements for my DVDs. Hell, a good deal of my anime collection is still in VHS format!

That's basically the stance of many, myself included.
