Criterion Channel Streaming Service to Add Anime Section in August

The service will add Ghost in the Shell, Redline, Paprika, and Tamala 2010: A Punk Cat in Space in August. The service is already streaming Naoko Yamada's Liz and the Blue Bird and five works by Makoto Shinkai: 5 Centimeters Per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, She and Her Cat, and Voices of a Distant Star.
The Criterion Collection once released Katsuhiro Ōtomo's Akira anime film on LaserDisc in 1992, although it would not release another animated film for another two decades. It released an eight-disc Blu-ray Disc set for the live-action Godzilla franchise titled Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954–1975 (with 15 films from the listed years) in 2019. The company also released The Complete Lady Snowblood collector's set, as well as Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood on DVD.
