Female Rock Band Stereopony to Perform at Sakura-Con

posted on by Kimberly Grace

Sony Music announced on Wednesday that the all-female Japanese rock band Stereopony will once again be performing in the U.S., this time as Guests of Honor for the Seattle-based anime convention Sakura-Con.

This will be the band's first time attending Sakura-Con. The trio of Aimi (vocal/guitar), Nohana (bass), and Shino (drums) first formed in 2007 and gained fame when their debut single, "Hitohira no Hanabira," was featured as the 17th ending theme to Bleach. Their second single, "Namida no Mukō," then became the second opening theme to the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and it debuted at #2 on Oricon's weekly singles charts.

Stereopony made its American performance debut at SXSW 2009. The band's second single "Chisana Mahō" was released as the opening theme to the Letter Bee Reverse anime. The band was also put into anime themselves to promote "Sumairaifu," the theme song to the 2009 anime film Yatterman: Shin Yatter Mecha Daishūgō! Omocha no Kuni de Daikessen da Koron! The band also sang the theme song for the Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor television anime series.

Besides SXSW 2009, Stereopony also performed at Anime Next 2010 and last year's Anime Boston.

Sakura-Con will take place April 6-8 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington. Steropony joins previously announced guests Todd Haberkorn, Steve Blum, Jamie Marchi, Clarine Harp, and Christopher R. Sabat.
