I find this just incredibly amazing that people would pay way over the odds for a pair of free tickets to see a replica of a house from a children’s anime. It has to be unprecedented in the western world.

I truly find it amazing too. But maybe they didn't want to wait in line and be turned away if they weren't under number 800. 800/day seems alot but maybe its a small number allowed per day to get into that exhibit.

You can't "just show up," and wait in line hoping to get in. You need to get a ticket in advance, the ticket tells you what day and what time to go. Right now these are reserved until the end of May. So if someone wants to go before then, they really have no choce but to buy a scalped ticket. -t |
