Used to have the first 4 (of 18) tankoubon in Japanese. Never really got into the manga like I did with the anime. Wonder if anyone would crowd-fund an R1 re-release of the anime using the Japanese DVD remasters. On the other hand, I've heard that the Japanese DVDs have AnimEigo's English subtitles (Toho owns the translation copyright, IIRC).
Anyway, I'd chip in for the KS (despite being only mildly interested in the manga), but I'm a little tapped out at the moment (most of my money is in long-term savings). |

On one hand, I want to throw my money at this. On the other hand, I don't want to commit to it if I won't be able to get the complete series, and nothing is mentioned about the possibility of the series being completed physically post-Kickstarter should the final stretch goal(s) not be met.
I hope this does well, considering how nice the series is. |

That's the main issue I take with this; it would irritate me to no end to be left with a single volume, and no realistic prospects of ever getting the others. |

Hopefully they touch on that as the campaign goes on. Because that is the reason why I've not put in for this one. I've never seen the anime or read the manga, and only know it by reputation...but I'd like to read it. I'd support a re-release of the anime too. And, another older manga that I only know by reputation, and one I'd support a KS for, would be Urusei Yatsura. |

I'm definitely going to support this, it's kind of a classic in its own right.
As for future volumes possibly not getting published somewhere down the road, I've sort of accepted that as a normal expectation for the manga industry at the moment (I've already invested in several series that were discontinued for different reasons, like UY, Gintama, Sgt. Frog, etc.) I'd just be happy getting to read the first part of the series, so it's not as big a deal for me. |

DMI previously issued the entire series in digital format in 20 volumes. It can be obtained from emanga.com at about $5.99 a volume. They give you credit for purchases so if you buy in stages you can reduce the cost of later volumes.
This is a good way to try before you jump in and means you will not be left hanging if the entire series does not get a print version. I bought the hardback Japanese language version when it was offered by Diamond years ago (about when Animeigo was first selling the VHS version of the TV series). While I'm not a fan of digital books, I was more than happy to be able to read it legally. |

Holy shat, it won't die. Matsumoto-sensei appears determined to get this released in English! Good luck to him. Also, I didn't know they completed the series digitally. Thought all attempts failed.
I've been eyeing those hardcover versions; thought about importing them through an English-speaking used manga store in Japan. What are they like? Do they have the color pages and all? Unfortunately, I can't afford to donate, especially at the tier that would actually net me a print copy. I hope those who can do support it though. This is a mandatory classic that needs to see a print publication over here, finally. And if this fails it may spell doom for any future classic manga Kickstarters. |

Coolness. Sadly I've given up on doing KS due to the amount of projects they we have funded and some producing no results. Not to mention very long wait times that don't get many updates. Of course DMP has always been reputable about getting titles out. But we'll just pick it up when it comes out.

I hope this succeeds because KOR is a great story and it'd be cool to have it fully released. That said, a few things about the campaign (itself) confuse me.
1. EVERY other campaign I've seen (altho that list is probably much short than for others), once you get the physical reward level, the digital reward (which is always cheaper) is just included. WHY is DMI breaking those out such that going from $30 -> $45 (or worse, $20 -> $45 if you got in early) only adds "digital manga". The cost on a digital download is as close to 0 as possible, so I don't get breaking that out as a +$15 "bonus". (in their structure, $15 = digital ver, $30 = physical, so basically you get both if you just add those two layers) 2. Now that the (small (20)) "Early Bird" set of options is gone, a backer needs to pony up $30 for the book, their own campaign says it will RETAIL (MSRP) for $25, so basically backers get to pay a $5 premium to own the book? 3. I agree with others, while I'm sure DMI wants whatever funds they can get, WHY open a campaign that's not "definitely" gonna release the whole thing? ESPECIALLY since this has apparently GOTTEN releases of what's in the first volume before ALREADY. I realize a higher number is harder to hit, but it seems like if people want to buy the SERIES they'll want the SERIES not (as many have said) just a hard copy of the first book. While I wish them luck and really respect what Matsumoto is doing to try to make this campaign succeed, it just seems REALLY awkward the way this is structured. |

It is available fairly inexpensively. DMI says they will do a new translation and lettering but I found no real issues with the existing version. |

doomy: Well, he hasn't really gotten paid in a while, because of his crappy childhood-related spinal condition. So even just a printing of the first volume would help him out a lot more than you think.
Heero: They got screwed on the multiple manga Tezuka thing. So they decided to be more realistic in their goals. And who says they're definitely not gonna make it to the final goal? They've already gotten pretty far with the first tier. Furthermore, I imagine if it does achieve the minimum target, more fans would be willing to jump in to at least it see it to half of the books, if nothing else. Alan: There's a couple grammatical errors on the digital here and there, unfortunately. But it's passable, if you want it legit, but don't want to own any physical copies. Edit: BTW, don't forget about the Skip Beat! Kickstarter, too. It's kinda stalled right now. |

Don't know what happened with the Tezuka thing, but the problem with them being 'realistic' here is that there are probably many people like myself who specifically don't want to commit if we're not going to get the whole thing in print. I know problems can arise that are out of their control and some series don't finish, but I would really hate to only have part of a series in print on my self, and know that it will never be complete. Should I pledge an amount and then withdraw at the very end if it looks like it won't meet all of the stretch goals? |
