To be totally honest, I'm kind of intrigued by the concept of a "sequel" to the original Death Note story, so this will be something to keep an eye on. While I'm not sure they'll be able to pull it off, it definitely sounds extremely interesting and worth checking out at the least.

I agree. Just because L and Light are both dead doesn't mean Ryuk (or other Shinigami) can't still cause havoc in the human world...

I don't see the need for live-action films when a perfectly good anime adaption exists. Anime will always be a better medium for manga adaptions than live-action just for art-style alone, but an original sequel would be the best route to go at any rate.
