So catchy...I actually might bother to read YouTube comments on this one.

It would've been MUCH better if they performed "The One". Not only is it 70% English, but it's a more proper and straightforward metal song. Also, it's a song from their new album. Gimme Chocolate is from their last album and it's one of their most idoly songs, so it might have been a turn off for some of the audience.

Interestingly, the YouTube video doesn't have the last couple of seconds of Babymetal's appearance from the episode stream. After the "thank you"'s, it sounded to me like Su-metal said "Say-ay" and Yuimetal and Moametal said "See you", like what is heard at the end of the "Road of Resistance" video.

I thought they'd perform "THE ONE". I got the new CD, and the CD version is 100% in English. I saw some videos from their Wembley performance, and they performed it there 100% in English, and performed it well, although the word "world" sounded like the word "word". Having seen the "Gimme Chocolate" performance now, though, I think they made the right call. This was probably the first time most of the audience had ever heard Babymetal, and I think "Gimme Chocolate" was a better song to introduce the group with.

I like this so much more than I thought I would based on a friends description of Babymetal. Glad their performance went well. All 3 of the vocalists are extremely cute too. Anime catgrin

I like Gimme Chocolate but it's pretty repetitive. For their US tv debut I would have liked them to perform something to show off Suzuka's vocal talents, something that would leave more of a lasting impression.

I too would've preferred to see them sing something in English or something that shows Sumetal's vocal talent more, but... honestly, with such a positive reaction from the audience and how much everyone on stage, both the band and the girls, seem to be enjoying themselves, I just can't be disappointed. xD

Gimme Chocolate is their most well-known song in the West, so they probably made the right call anyway.

Like a few people here have said, "The One" would've been a better song since it's not only in English but is also from their new album. However, it's not 100% English.

I think the idoliness of the song is a better choice for the audience. People are more likely to remember the bizarre mashup of catchy j pop and metal. They'll come for the novelty, and then some will stay for the music and vocals. Yes, some others will "WTF" out, but they probably wouldn't have have been interested in Baby Metal's more "traditional" metal stuff anyway.

I do think The One is a "better" song, technically speaking, but it just doesn't have that earworm hookiness that Gimmie Chocolate does. You actually kinda want that if you're making your US debut.

I can't believe I missed it. I have no idea why I was watching Fallon instead, since I knew I wanted to catch this when it was announced here on ANN and forgot all about it... Guess I shoulda paid more attention to certain portions of the internet for a reminder, huh?

Watching the video, the camera work seemed to be pretty poor, focusing a lot more on the band and not on the group's dancing. And it sounded like the mics weren't working properly for some parts of the song, specifically Yuimetal's portion of the song, or was just poor audio mixing. But at least the crowd was super into it.

Gimme Chocolate is their most popular song here, so it didn't surprise me that they would choose to do that song in particular. Picking a song to play because it's mostly English seems like a bad idea; see the example of using "Sharing Your World" for Miku's debut on Letterman two years ago, which became a lot of garbled lyrics because of pronunciation, though I understand why that had to choose that song (it was the image song for the US MikuExpo that they were promoting).

Now to remember to buy tickets for their show next month over by Times Square when my tax refund comes in...

I was standing in the second row at the SSE Arena and the concert was amazing. While yes, The One is in English, Gimme Chocolate is their most popular song so it's unsurprising that they would debut with that. Although I think they have plenty of better songs.

I'm glad that they're doing well but, I don't think they will turn people to Japanese music as a whole. Until I realized their popularity I assumed that only fans of Japanese music would like them, not thinking that metal fans may like them too. Still, I can't help but think that most who aren't fans of Japanese music or metal will keep seeing them as a gimmick band despite their growing popularity.

On that topic, I actually find their soaring popularity confusing as although they are a talented group as someone who has listened to Japanese music for years they'e just as good as other groups. I wonder if music circles see Babymetal as a fad or if they will pave the way for Japanese groups to have a greater presence internationally.
