I really hope that possibility becomes a reality in the future. I'd love to see a Shirobako sequel.

The next season could focus on making an anime movie. I wonder if it's any different than working on a weekly series? Since you have more time to work on it.

That's exactly my line of thinking; although perhaps that could be saved for an actual Shirobako movie? Because y'know  .
I'd also be interested in the franchise exploring other areas of the anime industry outside of strictly Musashino Animation, such as production committees, distributors, licensing etc. |

It would be awesome if we can get another season to explore more the whole anime making and how it works, i really really hope they decide to make specialy since the anime was so good accepted and also sold quite good so it would be a waste to not ride on this hype train for bit longer and earn some more money...

I'd like to see more shows similar to Shirobako but for other industries.
For example, if you've ever looked at Kaho-tans blog (good smile company), it's really interesting and fun getting that little window into the behind the scenes of a figure company. It think a shirobako-style show about a figure company like Good Smile (hell they would probably sponsor it) would be really interesting - theres so many different jobs involved in it that not many people think about. Plus I really love figures. (and there's so much potential for drama and comedy potential of the dreaded Delays  not to mention the figures that come out looking NOTHING like the prototype people saw when they preordered, like that infamous crappy Levi figure you can usually find for about 90% off nowadays)

Well, since they've done an original series and a manga adaptation, maybe the next item could be a hentai production?
Personally I don't find the idea of Aoi teaching an anime class all that intriguing. What makes Shirobako work for me is the ensemble performances from a lot of quirky characters. It just wouldn't be the same without Kinoshita, Yano, Goth-loli-sama, and Diesel-san to add spice to the stories. I'd actually like to see them produce a full season of Third Girls Aerial Squad. The first episode was released as an OVA and was interesting enough to make me want to see more. I don't know if P.A. could invest the same resources to maintain the high production values of the OVA across a full season though. (Those remarkably detailed 3-D planes are a tribute to the hard work of Shimonoyagi, Misa, and Diesel-san.) In contrast I have no interest in seeing more of "Exodus" though I guess it might have been nice to see the episode where Arupin cries over Nee-san being involved with Ginger. I just happened to watch all of the first installment of Sentai's release last night now that I bought a Blu-ray player to replace my dead PS3. Of course it never crossed Sentai's mind to include the Exodus OVA with the first half of Shirobako. They could include both it and Third Girls with the second installment, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm afraid we're always going to be left with relying on fansubs to watch these. |

I think their working on a movie should be saved for an actual movie; which would be interesting to see since Musashino would be one of several studios contracted to work on a movie of sufficient scale. If they got some analog to Otomo directing demanding pre-recording dialogue, how ridiculous retakes are in the beginning, or how long single cuts can take on a big scene in a feature, would be way of showing the differences and challenges involved in how feature animation is produced in Japan.
As for a TV sequel, I like the notion of an insider's perspective on anime trends; I'd like to know how creators (through a proxy) really feel about the things they create and the industry they're in, especially what they don't like, since it's usually couched in niceties and kid gloves. It doesn't need to be cynical or dreary, but it would be compelling stuff to see how the characters deal with an ambitious/good show like a Dennou Coil that flops/under-performs, or some of the stark realities of the industry (like the fact that the comically shy newbie Genga-girl, Kunogi, is probably doing 10-12 hour days while still needing help from her parents to pay rent, on a semi-regular basis). Nonetheless, more Shirobako is my favorite thing. |

I like Shirobako, and I think it is awesome that a great anime about the anime industry was made. But I am satisfied with the 24 episodes we got. If a sequel is made, I hope it is because the creative staff has the passion to do more and are not just forced by companies executives who want to make more money from this franchise.

You know what would be REALLY cool to see (IMO), a 2 part OVA collaboration with an American animation studio that gives the story of Third Girls Aerial being licensed for foreign/US distribution. It'd be really cool if they could do like Lupin v. Conan where each side has their distinct style but integrate them together to show to show a company here working to license and "localize" the show and Japanese stakeholders going through their efforts to negotiate their wishes. It'd be less "animation process" focused (boo) but it'd be cool to see what impact/effect foreign companies and fans have on the show.

This is about the only original TV anime I've enjoyed immensely in years so any possibility for a sequel has me interested. I'm sure they can come up with some more ideas and industry topics to look at that have become relevant since the first season aired. What really got me was it's positivism and optimism while never feeling like the industry using it as a mouth piece for self-congratulation. It acknowledged the challenges out there but you could tell they were trying to show genuine appreciation for the craft. It did a whole lot more on that front than a lot of things that tend to be cynically commercial and just use the medium as a self-serving advertising tool and nothing more nowadays let me tell you.

Yep. That's exactly my position. I hate forced sequels more than anything. I feel like I got a perfect story as is, but if a sequel is made with the same passion as the first season, I would be okay with that. |
