All Right! Hope to get a chance to read it! He may not be the best mangaka but after Gash Bell kick started me into anime and manga in the first place, and seeing his growth as a mangagka in Animal Land, I'm more than willing to read something from this guy! Very Happy

The magazine describes the new series as a "school fantasy manga about bonds."

A manga about financial instruments, of all things.

All I can say is that if this does not catch my heart, I will not be very melon.

I feel pretty much the same way. Animal Land really derailed in it's second half, but I love Zatch Bell to death and will always be following Raiku. He always turns out an interesting product. That dude in the picture has crazy-ass hair, also.

(also, thatguy3331, I believe we've had a few interactions on tumblr and I think you just liked one of my posts there shortly before I wrote this, so, hi)

Animal Land was amazing.
It was not perfect, the arts looked really ugly to me at first but by the end of the story it didn't matter anymore, I was moved by the story and the characters, had me laugh and cry so many times Crying or Very sad (and a grown up man doesn't cry for nothing).
A trully underrated manga (another manga featuring "giants and flying humans" published at the same time got all the attention).
Can't wait to read his next works!!!

PS: ANN, no article on the manga artists supporting the victims of the earthquake in Japan?
Makoto Raiku is one of them. Cool

If it's about bonds and it's by the creator of Gash Bell, this manga will be all but guaranteed to make my kokoro go "Doki Doki."

Good news. But what isn't good news is that Zatch Bell has yet to finish being dubbed...

Someone who dislikes Gash Bell...? >Neutral What's 1,000 minus 7?

In all seriousness though, I'd recommend continuing the manga/anime until around the time of the Zophise/Millennium Demon Arc. I forget what chapter of the manga it begins, but it's episode 51 of the anime (47 if you wanna get technical). Though, if you want some standouts before then, look for Sherry's backstory episode, the episodes with Yopopo and Danny, the fight with Apollo and Ropes, Kanchome and Folgore's short arc where Kanchome goes to the circus and meets a little french girl (that one is especially precious), and the fight with Bari/Berry/Bali/whatever (That one is intense as hell, being one of the few fights where Gash and Kiyomaro lose). I can admit that the beginning is fairly by-the-books shounen (and that god awful childish dub never helps to forget that), but even then, the one place it truly shines is the beating heart this show has. Whenever a good demon's book is burnt, you feel something for them, even if they were only around for a single episode. Never does it feel like a character exists solely for the purpose of dying.

The fact that each demon has a human partner adds a certain layer of emotion and heart to it as well. We see that these anti-hero demons all have one person that they care about, while a lot of other shows have this sort of "HAHA! Pitiful human! Why should I care about something so weak!?" thing when it's a story of humans and monsters. Even good "monster" characters usually don't escape that pit of human bashing. Here though, they're forced to find value in their human partners. It's interesting to see the dynamic in my opinion. Some humans become parents to their demon (Koruru and Shiori, Rooper and Papipurio, Rein and Kyle, and especially Kanchome and Folgore), some humans use their demons for petty worldly gain (the first demon that Gash and Kiyomaro fight in the manga, Demolt and his book owner), some demons are only using their book owners (mostly early on, Koko and Zophise is a mind control version of this while the guy who tries to destroy his school and his demon are a more realistic version). There are many different kinds of humans and demons throughout the show, and every time a demon dies, you kind of feel sad even if they were an early villain. They had so much potential and chose to use it for the wrong cause.

Bottom line, if you're too impatient to wait for the show or manga to get good, just skip around to the good parts. You don't require much context, as it's fairly episodic early on.

I read Tajiri-san is autistic. I can relate as my countless hours on the computer (along with a full-time job) has me be reclusive. I also have Asperger's, which is similar to autism.
